The third campaign expansion for Borderlands 3, Bounty of Blood, is scheduled to release on June 25. In a GameSpot Play For All interview, Gearbox creative director Matt Cox revealed that this new DLC would break the pattern of seeing the return of a Borderlands character. “We do have some freedom to try some new things with certain story moments,” Cox said. “And we’re keeping a lot of the story close to the chest because we built something that we think is pretty special–some surprises here and there. And I just want to say this: When I say surprises, I know a lot of people think, ‘Ah, returning characters are coming back, who is it?’ But I just want to be very clear that the only returning characters are the Vault Hunters themselves. The planet of Gehenna and all the characters we meet are all brand-new.”

Both of Borderlands 3’s first two campaign DLCs saw the return of fan-favorite Borderlands characters. In Mad Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jack, you teamed up with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel‘s Timothy and the Lovecraft-themed Love, Guns, and Tentacles reintroduced Borderlands 2‘s Gaige. Based on the teaser image for the fourth and final DLC expansion, it’s assumed DLC 4 will see us reunite with Borderlands 2’s Krieg, which would mean that Bounty of Blood will be the only campaign expansion not focused around a returning character.

Best Buy is back with another big sale this week, although instead of its usual one-day sale, you’ve got four days to take advantage of this one. Many deals are returning from previous sales, including a ton of discounts on Apple products like iPads and MacBooks, but there’s also a selection of game deals available along with some 4K TVs, monitors, wireless earbuds, and more. The deals end Thursday, but there’s a chance the most popular discounts could sell out before then.

The Best Buy sale includes a variety of PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC games, including Borderlands 3 for $15, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for $54, and Civilization VI (Switch) for $20. A lot of the game deals we’re seeing here tend to appear among Best Buy’s weekly sales, but they’re still worth checking out. Xbox One exclusives like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and Sea of Thieves are still down to $10 each, even though Microsoft’s huge Deals Unlocked sale is over. Following the announcement of Crash Bandicoot 4, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is discounted to $34 if you’re itching to replay the original trilogy. After being delayed in support of Black Lives Matter, Borderlands 3’s Takedown at the Guardian Breach has since been patched in but will be receiving some changes in the coming week.

Takedown at the Guardian Breach is the latest in a slew of Borderlands 3 content updates, following the popular Revenge of the Cartels event. It launched a few days ago on June 12, and added a number of new rewards in the form of Legendary weapons, mods, and of course, cosmetics.

Now, there’s been some time for the community to hit back with how they feel about this latest update and it looks like the Borderlands 3 team will be making adjustments accordingly. The tweet above from the official Borderlands account suggests that they’re going to look at tweaking enemy health first, with new foes taking a little too long to kill for Vault Hunters’ comfort.

Hello everyone! Jordan here. GameSpot went into June with plans to kick off Play For All, a combo platter of gaming celebration and charity effort to raise money for COVID-19 relief. And we’re still doing that, don’t worry. But there’s a lot more going on in the world than COVID-19 right now. Cities across the US are now witness to massive protests against the ongoing violence towards black individuals suffering police brutality. In support of the protests, GameSpot has shifted the message of Play For All. We’re still raising money for COVID-19 relief, but we want to also show our support and raise money for Black Lives Matter.

So we want to take the time to highlight black creators and the work they do, whether they work for GameSpot or other parts of the industry. On our front page and social media, we’ll be sharing articles, videos, and podcast episodes that you may have already seen before, here or otherwise. We’ve compiled and will continue to add to a list of work below. That list includes projects that look at the black experience in pop culture, like Alessandro Fillari’s exploration of Far Cry 5’s setting and how it made him feel like an outsider and my look at how disappointing it is to see Borderlands 3 hand-waving the racist undertones of H.P. Lovecraft’s stories in its Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC, as well as projects that have less to do with race but offer something you might still find interesting, such as Greg Thomas’ video of the 11 times that The Twilight Zone predicted the future. We urge you to take a few minutes to check out some of the coolest pieces of work from the black creators that are carving out a space for themselves in our industry every day.

Of course, the conversation doesn’t stop there. Acknowledging that there is a difference in how black people are generally treated when it comes to the police shouldn’t be the end of the conversation, and neither should these articles, videos, and podcasts that look at how race has informed representation in pop culture. Action is necessary, as is education. Borderlands 3‘s gritty western DLC, Bounty of Blood, is coming out later this month but Gearbox has released new details and gameplay footage.

Bounty of Blood has Vault Hunters travel to a new desert planet, to protect the small town of Vestige from the Devil Riders, a vicious gang. The DLC features all new characters and a new vehicle, the JetBeast.

Bounty of Blood is the game’s third DLC, with the first two being Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot and Guns, Love, and Tentacles, the latter of which we criticized for embracing Lovecraftian themes in a problematic way, as it did not unpack the bigotry of the man who created those ideas.

Borderlands 3 is releasing its third DLC expansion soon, and a chunk of gameplay has been shown off in a new video. The next expansion, Bounty of Blood: A Fistful of Redemption, is western-themed, and will feature new characters (including a narrator) and a Jet Beast Mount. You can see and hear some of those new features in the video below.

The footage shows off some vehicular combat, and highlights some new locations on the desert planet Gehenna, including the snow-covered Ashfall Peaks. The narrator certainly gives the game a more cinematic vibe than it had before.
