With the rise of digital downloads and monthly subscriptions like Xbox Game Pass, physical game rentals may soon be going the way of Blockbuster. One of the biggest companies still doing physical rentals, Redbox, announced earlier this month that it will no longer offer game rentals at its kiosks, and physical game sales will only be available through the end of the year, according to CNET. Redbox will still offer movie rentals.
In a recent tweet, Redbox customer service explained the decision was made after evaluating “changes in the industry,” which led it to shift its full focus to physical movies, which is the bulk of its business anyway.

Here are some of the best game deals we were able to verify. While Redbox shows Nintendo Switch games on its site, only PS4 and Xbox One games appear to be available. Keep in mind stock will vary based on your location, and you’ll have to pick up the game at your local Redbox.
Borderlands 3 has joined the games line-up for the Google Stadia, bringing its brand of online co-op mania to Google’s streaming platform. But the version of Borderlands 3 that Stadia owners will get is not on par with the one currently playable on PS4, Xbox One, or PC.
In a post on the official Borderlands 3 site, Gearbox has announced that they are hoping to reach parity in early 2020, but for now Borderlands 3 on Stadia is a few updates behind. It is at the point the other versions were at as of October 24, which means that it is missing a few features. The big November update, for instance, which increased the bank size and added the Mayhem 4 difficulty level, is not integrated yet.
It also means that the game’s first major DLC, Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, won’t arrive in the Stadia version until 2020. It’s due on December 19 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One players.
Some players on Reddit are also finding that the game does not run at 60FPS, which was one of the promises of the system. However, later comments in the same thread are arguing that it actually does run at 60FPS in “balanced” mode.
The game is available at a discount on Stadia for a limited time. The standard edition is on sale for $39, while the Deluxe Edition costs $52. That deal ends on January 7 at 7:00am PDT.
The year’s PC winter sales are underway. GOG has already kicked off theirs, Steam is getting ready to do so later this week, and the Epic Games Store has 12 days of free games to accompany their deals. Green Man Gaming is also holding its own sale, where it introduces new flash deals every day. These flash deals last 48 hours and feature the games’ lowest prices–you won’t see them cheaper for the rest of the sale.
The first two flash deals are Red Dead Redemption 2 and Borderlands 3. Green Man Gaming’s keys for Red Dead 2 are redeemable on the Rockstar Games Launcher, while Borderlands 3 is currently exclusive to the Epic Game Store. Both games will be available for their sale price until Wednesday, December 18, at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET.

With Amazon Prime, you’ll nearly always get free two-day, one-day, or even same-day shipping depending on where you live and what time of day you place the order. That makes Amazon an ideal place to snag last-minute gifts for Christmas, and luckily for budget-savvy shoppers, there’s a huge sale going on right now with last-minute deals on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
In terms of game deals, it’s clear that Amazon’s stock is starting to dwindle after the rush of Black Friday, but there are still some great deals this week. Notably, Death Stranding is only $40, the cheapest it’s been since its release on PS4 in November. Borderlands 3 is available for just $35 on PS4 and Xbox One. You can also snag Marvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition for just $20 on PS4; it includes all DLC. There’s also a nice discount on Red Dead Redemption 2 for Xbox One: $30 for a digital code.
If you missed out on some of the best VR deals from Black Friday, a great headset option is back in stock at Amazon ahead of Christmas. You can snag a standalone Oculus Go VR headset at a nice discount right now: $149 for the 32GB and $199 for the 64GB model. Please note this particular headset isn’t compatible with the upcoming game Half-Life: Alyx; it’s better suited for watching TV and movies.
Amazon also restocked some of Black Friday’s best console offers, including the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition for $149. The PS4 Slim holiday bundle with God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, and The Last of Us Remastered is also back in stock at a discount, although it’s priced at $250 rather than its ridiculously low Black Friday price, $200. Still, this is the bundle to buy if you’re looking to pick up a PS4 this Christmas.
The Game Awards 2019 took place this evening in Los Angeles, celebrating the year’s biggest and best games. Bloodborne developer FromSoftware took home the overall Game of the Year award for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The other nominees were Control, Death Stranding, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Resident Evil 2, and The Outer Worlds. Sekiro also won Best Action/Adventure game for 2019.
The RPG Disco Elysium was also a big winner at The Game Awards. It was nominated for four awards and won them all–including Best Narrative Game, Best Independent Game, Best RPG, and Fresh Indie Game.

The Game Awards 2019 broadcast also brought with it a lot of news, including the reveal of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. This is the company’s next-generation console previously known as Project Scarlett. The system goes on sale in Holiday 2020 with Halo Infinite releasing as a launch title.
The Game Awards take place live in Los Angeles this evening, and in addition to 10 game reveals, the show will hand out awards to some of 2019’s best games.

The holiday season is upon us, and the malls and stores are starting to get a little crowded. However, there are plenty of presents you can buy online, many of which we’ve detailed in our Holiday 2019 gift guides. Of course, there are also those dang stockings, festive socks full of treats and smaller gifts. It can always be a little tricky trying to figure out which stocking stuffers to buy, but we’ve got you covered.
Below, we’ve collected an assortment of smaller, more affordable stocking stuffer ideas that are just begging to be thrown in a sock. If you’re shopping for someone who’s into gaming or tech, you’ll find plenty of inspiration here, from small Bluetooth speakers and wireless earbuds to tiny video game controllers and some of the most useful Nintendo Switch accessories.
Tile Mate is a small device that you can attach to pretty much any item you own and track its whereabouts. You can make the Tile Mate ring as long as you’re within 200 feet of it, and if that fails, then you can still find it with location tracking. The real killer feature of the Tile Mate is the ability to make your phone ring–even when it’s on silent–if that’s the belonging you’ve misplaced.

Wireless chargers are both cool and convenient, waving away the need to search for the right end of your charging cable before finally plugging it in and setting it down. The Anker wireless charger works with many different phones, but before you buy it, make sure your special somebody’s phone is on the compatibility list.
For those who are always on the go, a dwindling battery can be one of the biggest anxieties of your day-to-day life, whether it’s their smartphone, Nintendo Switch, or any other device. With Black Friday in the rearview mirror, some of this year’s biggest discounts on consoles and console games are definitely behind us, but the same can’t be said for PC games. Sure, Steam held its annual Autumn Sale during Black Friday, but there are other digital game stores that tend to have even better prices. One such store is Fanatical, which just launched its own Winter Sale with hundreds of deals on digital game codes, many of which can be redeemed on Steam.
The Winter Sale is live now through January 3, but along with the main store sale, there will be 24-hour Star Deals going live every day until Christmas. These flash deals are only available for a day at a time and they tend to have some of the best discounts available online, so keep checking back to see what the latest game on sale is.
Some of the best deals available right now include two of this year’s biggest games, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5, for $18 each. You’ll also find acclaimed strategy game Civilization VI for $15 as well as Monster Hunter World for $27. Newer games, like Borderlands 3 and The Outer Worlds, are both down to $52.79, although please note those must be redeemed through the Epic Games Store.
