Gearbox is issuing a new hotfix for Borderlands 3, rotating out the two previous limited-time events and introducing a couple of new ones. The new events will last for two weeks, as usual, and together they make both loot and cash more plentiful. It will be live on all platforms by 12 PM PT on April 16.

According to the announcement, the new LTEs are Mr. Torgue’s Slaughter Onslaught and Making It Rain. Those two will increase dedicated loot drops from Slaughter bosses and increase in-game cash drops across all enemy types, respectively. They replace Slot Machine Mania and Trials Take-All. The announcement also teases that April 30 will add a Co-Op Loot Drop limited-time event.

This hotfix doesn’t make any balance adjustments, as Gearbox says it’s still letting the dust settle on the last balance patch. That one made heavy adjustments to Moze, and was the second such patch after Gearbox signaled it was planning to keep tweaking the character. The hotfix does make one actual fix, though, specifically to the Phasegrasp ability on Nekrotafeyo. It also lays the groundwork for Mayhem 2.0.

Last week, Gearbox introduced a mini-game to Borderlands 3 called Borderlands Science, a block-matching puzzler similar to Bejeweled or Puyo Puyo that allows players to compare microbes. According to Gearbox and the project’s co-developers, since even supercomputers can’t effectively compare these microbes to each other as well as a human, players are advancing the cause of science by simply spending time with the game.

Since then, Gearbox has posted a blog that answers some of the questions that players have been asking about the mini-game, which was developed in conjunction with McGill University, Massively Multiplayer Online Science, and The Microsetta Initiative. For one, the developer has now confirmed that the mode is a permanent addition to Borderlands 3, rather than a limited-time mode. Gearbox also says that it’s “looking into” introducing the mode to mobile devices, since many players have specifically requested that.

In other Gearbox news, Borderlands 3 recently released its new DLC, titled Guns, Love, and Tentacles in late March. It increased the game’s level cap, added new legendary weapons, and a whole raft of cosmetics. The game also released some patch notes this week.

It’s easy to find deals on digital games right now, as numerous storefronts and publishers are offering discounts to celebrate the arrival of spring. While console gamers are primarily confined to deals on platform shops, PC players can pick up games on discount at multiple storefronts. The Epic Games Store Spring Sale is in full swing, and now another spring sale has bloomed at Green Man Gaming. GMG is discounting more than 1,600 games until April 23, most of which can be claimed on Steam.

Out of the gate, the most noteworthy deal is the remake of Resident Evil 3 for $46.19, the best price available yet on PC. Resident Evil 3 Remake just released earlier this month, so if you haven’t snagged a copy yet, now’s a great time. This week on Good News Gaming, we take a look at how playing Borderlands 3 contributes to real world medical research, check out the best free games available now, as well as the best let’s play we’ve ever seen.

When Gearbox issued a patch to buff Moze in Borderlands 3, it noted that it wasn’t done tweaking the character and further changes would be incoming. That didn’t take long, as now the company has issued another set of hotfix patch notes, again focused primarily on making Moze stronger. It also kicks off a few limited-time mini-events for the next week.

The hotfix adjusts four of Moze’s skills, all buffs to attributes like cooldown rate or damage output, and it also makes several adjustments to her Iron Bear ability. While Moze’s adjustments are universally buffs, the tweaks to Iron Bear have a couple of nerfs as well. On the whole, though, the character is coming out much stronger.

The hotfix also introduces two mini-events: Rare Chest Riches and Loot Monster Mayhem. Rare Chest Riches increases your odds of getting Legendary items from rare chests. Loot Monster Mayhem increases the chances of Loot enemies appearing in-game and also increases their chances to drop Legendary gear. Both events will last through April 16 at 9 AM PT.

Borderlands 3 has added a new arcade machine to Sanctuary III, and playing it has benefits to the world of science. In the corner of Doctor Tannis’ infirmary, you’ll find Borderlands Science, a game designed to help real-world scientists organize data.

Borderlands Science, introduced in the trailer below, is a block-shifting puzzle game that involves mapping and comparing microbes, a task that even the most complex supercomputer is not as good at as human players. Completing these puzzles will earn you in-game currency, and you can continue playing each puzzle for a high score after it is finished.

The puzzle game was developed in conjunction with McGill University, Massively Multiplayer Online Science, and The Microsetta Initiative.

The benefits of this game are shown off in the video below, hosted by PhD scientist and actor Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory). As she explains, the Microseta Initiative has collected microbes from human feces, which is what players will be organizing.

Playing this game will help the scientists spot computer errors in their sequences, helping scientists compare the data and learn more about the human gut, and the data will ultimately be used to combat various diseases. It looks like good fun, alongside all the benefits to the science community it offers.

Borderlands 3 recently explained with the Guns, Love, And Tentacles DLC, which increased the game’s level cap. It’s available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia.

Borderlands Science was announced today with a trailer featuring Big Bang Theory star (and real scientist) Mayim Bialik.

The profit share payout was apparently much lower than Gearbox employees expected.
