As of late, we’ve been seeing more and more digital game deals on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. With people staying at home more often while practicing social distancing, digital games offer a convenient way to get what you want instantly (well, after downloading of course). But if you favor physical games, you can still find great deals that will ship to your home, and Best Buy’s current slate of gaming deals features some excellent games at stellar prices. The heavy hitter right now is Doom Eternal with a bonus steelbook case for $40 on PS4 and Xbox One, but there are plenty of other discounts if demon-killing isn’t your thing.

Best Buy’s sale is particularly great for fans of shooters. One of 2019’s most popular shooters, Borderlands 3, is slashed to $25 on PS4 and Xbox One. The loot shooter earned an 8/10 in GameSpot’s Borderlands 3 review. Meanwhile, The Division 2 Gold Steelbook Edition is available for the low price of $35 on PS4, which is a whopping $75 off. Ubisoft’s post-apocalyptic sequel earned a 9/10 in GameSpot’s The Division 2 review. Far Cry 5 and Far Cry New Dawn, two more Ubisoft titles, are only $10 each on PS4 and Xbox One (today only, May 11). Xbox One users can also grab Gears 5 for $40.

If fighting games are more your speed, Mortal Kombat 11 is down to $20 on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch ahead of its upcoming expansion, Aftermath, which releases May 26. Action fans can pick up Middle-earth: Shadow of War on clearance for $10 on PS4 and Xbox One. Slay the Spire, which combines card-battling and roguelike mechanics, is discounted to $22 on Switch, $9 on PS4, and $26 on Xbox One.

After 12 years with Gearbox Software, audio director and composer Raison Varner has announced on Twitter that he will be moving to Obsidian Studios. Varner has worked on all of Gearbox’s flagship games over the years, as well as voicing various Borderlands psycho enemies and the Loader Bot in Tales From The Borderlands.

Varner was the music director on Borderlands 3, working with a team of composers to push the game’s soundtrack to be unique and creative, while still belonging cohesively to a single game. Under Varner’s leadership, Borderlands 3 pushed the possibilities of what a game soundtrack would do. In an interview with GameSpot, Borderlands 3 composer Jesper Kyd said the game featured “a really deep interactive music system with many layers and modular pieces that are randomly put together in-game, so the music sounds a bit different every time you play the game.”

Obsidian’s latest game The Outer Worlds launched in October 2019, with story DLC planned for an as-yet unknown date in 2020. The Nintendo Switch release of The Outer Worlds was pushed back due to coronavirus, now with a release date of June 5 2020. The future of Obsidian was made more concrete with Microsoft’s purchase of the company in 2018, with a focus on allowing the studio to make the kind of games it wants to make.

Borderlands 3 is getting a new hotfix today, which as always means changing up some limited-time mode offerings. Besides that, Gearbox will be making some adjustments to the newly revised Mayhem 2.0 mode along with various other fixes.

According to the patch notes, the hotfix will be live on all platforms by 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET on April 30. It will move the Loot the Universe event to Promethea, so you’ll need to visit that planet to get your increased loot drops for the week. However, the much bigger changes are to the Mayhem Mode. It disables two Mayhem Modifiers: Boundary Issues and Drone Ranger. Those were apparently too resource-intensive and disabling them has helped improve performance. It also adjusts drop rates and Anointment rates.

The Co-Op Loot Drop limited-time event will end when the new hotfix goes live. You’ll have one week to grab loot from Promethea before the Loot the Universe event moves to Eden-6.

Every mansion needs a puzzle, and every puzzle has an answer.

The Borderlands 3 new expansion, Revenge of the Cartel, has gone live. With the 80s flair of neon colors and an all-new arch nemesis, Revenge of the Cartel is bringing even more loot to the base game for a limited-time on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The new area will bring in never-before-seen enemy types, limited-time challenges, and new legendary loot. Players will need to complete a number of side-missions to unlock the new Villa Ultraviolet area.

Maurice will be adding some new, repeatable quests to his job board inside Sanctuary III, with each quest zeroing in on Cartel Operatives across the universe. Take enough of the Cartel members down and you’ll unlock Villa Ultraviolet and meet the Cartel crime boss Joey Ultraviolet.

Borderlands 3 and the wonky survival MMO Last Oasis also made the list.

The overhauled Mayhem Mode and seasonal event both go live on April 23.

Following its Guns, Love, and Tentacles campaign expansion, Borderlands 3 is getting another seasonal event. Revenge of the Cartels is free, providing a limited-time opportunity to earn loot and rewards. The event begins April 23, launching alongside other changes rolling out with Mayhem Mode 2.0, and will continue until June 4.

As detailed in a Gearbox blog post, Revenge of the Cartels adds a brand-new area to Borderlands 3 called Villa Ultraviolet. The new locale will introduce never-before-seen enemy types, limited-time challenges, and new legendary loot. However, you won’t be able to immediately visit Villa Ultraviolet on April 23–you’ll need to complete a few side missions first.

Come April 23, Maurice will add a new, repeatable quest to his job board on Sanctuary III. The quest will send you out to fight Cartel Operatives across multiple planets–defeat them and you’ll earn Hideout Coordinates. Collect enough and you’ll be able to travel to Villa Ultraviolet, the home of crime boss Joey Ultraviolet.

Borderlands 3 is all about the loot hunt, and even after you’ve finished the main campaign and all the released DLC, you can still keep searching for better gear. That post-game content is driven largely by Mayhem mode, which lets you up the difficulty for better loot rolls. Gearbox has been teasing some revisions with “Mayhem 2.0,” and with that update just around the corner the studio has explained what we can expect.

The update is coming on April 23 and adds a number of modifiers to the various Mayhem levels. Those modifiers are rated by difficulty level, from Easy to Very Hard. Easy modifiers might actually make the game easier by adding wacky effects like big heads on enemies or dramatically increased weapon damage paired with increased recoil. Medium modifiers make things more challenging, like requiring you to be constantly on the move or suffer chip-damage. A Hard modifier might spawn healing drones for your enemies.

Those modifiers are selected at random when you turn on Mayhem mode, but they’ll be matched to your Mayhem level according to a formula. If you select Mayhem Level 1, for example, you’ll always get one Easy modifier. If you select Mayhem 2, you’ll get one easy and one medium modifier. By the time you reach Mayhem Level 10, you’ll get one of each. Gearbox shared a table that shows the modifiers by difficulty level, included below.

The weekend is fast approaching, and if you need a game to help you kill the time while you’re stuck at home, then there are a handful of titles available completely for free on Xbox One. Whether you’re a fan of shooting hordes of enemies or just hacking and slashing your way through them, there are games for you. And if you’ve ever dreamed of being a racecar driver or a deep-space pilot, then you could have quite the adventurous weekend ahead of yourself.

Borderlands 3: Game of the Year Edition is completely free to play this weekend, and if you want to continue playing past April 23, then you can snag it for $15 this weekend–the sale ends on April 20. It includes all of its DLC as part of the GOTY package, so you’ll be able to play everything ever released for the first Borderlands game.

Starlink Atlas is also free on Xbox One this weekend, and while it’s a game that puts an emphasis on real-world toys, you don’t actually need the customizable model ships to enjoy yourself–though you can always snag them for pretty cheap at some retailers. You fly through space, visit planets, and complete missions. Starlink’s Standard edition is $15 and comes with four ships, six pilots, and twelve weapons, while the Deluxe edition is $24 and bundles all of that with 14 more DLC packs full of new ships, pilots, and guns.
