Developer Gearbox Software is back with yet another hotfix update for Borderlands 3 on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One. While the patch notes are incredibly short, this new update signals one big change when it goes live today at 12 PM PT / 3 PM ET.

Loot the Universe, Borderlands 3’s limited-time mini-event that let you farm a variety of Legendary weapons on several different planets, has come to an end. Gearbox said there will not be another in-game mini-event while the studio prepares its June 4 patch.

This new hotfix update makes two specific adjustments. The first is changing the spawn rate of Rare Spawns in Borderlands 3’s Guns, Love, and Tentacles DLC campaign. The second is addressing the lack of dedicated loot drops from Wotan tk-full name in Mayhem mode. And that’s it.

As part of Take-Two’s latest earnings report, the Rockstar Games and 2K Games owner revealed how much money its titles make from microtransactions and which games are the most popular.

Microtransactions are labeled by Take-Two as “recurrent consumer spending,” which includes virtual currency, add-on content, and in-game purchases. For the quarter ended March 31, recurrent consumer spending increased by 40 percent and made up 54 percent of Take-Two’s overall net revenue ($760.5 million), for a total of more than $410 million.

Some of the games that performed the best in terms of microtransactions included NBA 2K20, NBA 2K19, Grand Theft Auto Online, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Dead Online, Borderlands 3, Civilization VI, and SocialPoint’s mobile titles such as WWE SuperCard and WWE 2K20.

A new week is finally here, bringing a fresh batch of discounts on games for PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. Summer sales are starting to kick off on the various storefronts, from the Epic Games Store Mega Sale to the PlayStation Store’s Extended Play and Games Under $15 sales, but as usual, Amazon has quite a few game discounts available right now as well. Amazon deals haven’t been as plentiful as usual during the coronavirus pandemic, but this week, you can still snag some great games for good prices.

If you’re in the mood for some Assassin’s Creed after the reveal of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you can get Assassin’s Creed: The Rebel Collection–which bundles Black Flag and Rogue–for $33 on Switch. Several other Switch games are on sale as well, such as Collection of Mana, which bundles three classic games (including the original Seiken Densetsu 3, renamed Trials of Mana). The Trials of Mana remake just released, but if you want to see where the series began, you can grab the Switch collection for $25. The sale also includes Civilization VI for $15 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s complete edition for $45.

Besides Switch games, you can currently grab Borderlands 3’s normally $100 Super Deluxe Edition for just $40–this gets you the season pass along with various in-game cosmetics and loot. The newly released Persona 5 Royal, an expanded version of the acclaimed JRPG, is available for $49.94. Whether you’re new to the game or a longtime fan interested in the new content, Persona 5 Royal is worth grabbing while it’s on sale. You can also grab one of the newest PS4 exclusives, Nioh 2, for just $40, the best price we’ve seen since it released in March. For Sims 4 players on PC, Amazon is also having a sale on a bunch of expansions for the game, so it’s a great time to grab any of those you’ve been wanting.

The Epic Games Store just kicked off its annual Mega Sale in a very big way: The store surprised Epic users this week by offering Grand Theft Auto 5 as its next free game, available now until May 21. The surprise giveaway marked the beginning of a full month of game deals and weekly giveaways at the Epic Games Store in what is essentially Epic’s version of Steam’s Summer Sale. Unfortunately, the Epic Games Store is having loading issues today due to a large number of people coming to the site to claim GTA 5.

The Epic Mega Sale includes four weeks of game deals, and a new free game will be given away every Thursday. Normally, we know what next week’s freebie will be, but during the sale, Epic is keeping each week’s free game a mystery. We’re keeping track of every Epic free game (past and current), so check out our guide for more info.

Of course, the Mega Sale is bringing a slew of discounts on Epic’s biggest games, including Control for $30, Borderlands 3 for $30, and Red Dead Redemption 2 for $48. Once the site is loading properly again, we’ll be able to highlight more of the best game discounts here.

Developer Gearbox Software will roll out a quick hotfix update for Borderlands 3 on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One later today, May 14, that addresses some community concerns and more. We’ve compiled the full patch notes below.

The leading feature of this hotfix update is the continuation of the looter-shooter’s mini-event, Loot the Universe. The event will now take place on the lost Eridian planet of Nekrotafeyo until May 21, where you can farm Legendary Eridian weapons and get the chance to score other Legendary gear types (such as class mods, artifacts, shields, grenade mods, and more).

The patch also makes some adjustments based on community feedback. This includes tweaking Mayhem Mode so that it showers players with rewards after dying, adding the Mongol to Thunk and Sloth’s item pool, increasing the chances for more Legendary loot to drop from the boss and mini-boss in Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite, changing the dedicated loot pools for Wotan and the Valkyrie Squad, and more.

Gearbox rolled out its revised Mayhem Mode for Borderlands 3 a few weeks ago, and since then it’s been making minor improvements and revisions based on player feedback. The studio is also working on larger-scale adjustments, as detailed in a new blog post covering Mayhem and general quality-of-life changes.

The studio says the feedback it hears most often is about difficulty, gear balancing, scaled damage sources, and build diversity. To address these, it will be rolling out updates in two distinct phases. The first will deal with the stat scaling and gear changes between different Mayhem levels. Starting with the next Takedown update, enemy health, armor, and shield stat bonuses will be scaled down in higher Mayhem levels, and both under- and overperforming gear will be rebalanced. This update will also introduce a new line in the item card that will identify which Mayhem level you received a piece of gear from.

The second phase will focus on character balance and diversifying builds. Non-weapon sources of damage like action skills, melee, and vehicle damage will all scale with Mayhem levels, and Grenade Mods will drop as Mayhem gear with bonuses. The update will also bring bonus Skill Damage into Class Mods, giving those an even bigger boost. Vending machines and chests will also start spitting out gear that’s correctly leveled for your current Mayhem level, but Gearbox says it will take time to implement and test that functionality.

The PlayStation Store has been hosting tons of sales over the past couple of months, and many times multiple are running at the same time. Last week, the Hidden Gems Sale went live, and while you still have until next week to browse those deals, two new sales just kicked off today: the Extended Play Sale and Games Under $15. The Extended Play Sale focuses on the more expensive editions of big hits like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, while the Games Under $15 sale features titles such as Rainbow Six Siege, Watch Dogs 2, and more. Both sales run until May 28, so you have about two weeks to browse the 400-plus deals.

The Extended Play sale includes a number of popular games released over the past couple of years. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’s Deluxe Edition, which comes with skins, an art book, and behind-the-scenes footage, is down to $42. Borderlands 3’s Super Deluxe Edition includes the season pass and numerous in-game goodies for $50 right now. If you’re looking forward to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Gold Edition is down to a new low price of $25. The Gold Edition includes a wealth of extra content, including the massive expansions and Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered.

The Division 2’s Warlords of New York expansion released earlier this year, and if you haven’t dived into Ubisoft’s open-world shooter, the Warlords of New York Edition (also includes the base game) is 50% off at $30. Meanwhile, another pair of epic open-world adventures have gotten huge discounts. Red Dead Redemption 2’s Special Edition is $36–which is a great price for even just the base game–and The Witcher 3: Complete Edition is only $15.

Best Buy has just kicked off its latest Deal of the Day, which features two fantastic shooters that released in the last year. Borderlands 3 is currently $13, while Doom Eternal is $35. This deal is available for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Borderlands 3, while Doom Eternal’s sale price is available for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions–unfortunately, Doom Eternal has not yet made its way to the Nintendo Switch. As a Deal of the Day, you have less than 24 hours to take advantage of this sale, but the best deals tend to sell out even sooner, so we don’t recommend waiting long. Both games come with free shipping, though if you want it sooner, a location near you may have it in stock and available for curbside pick-up.

Borderlands 3 marked the return to the beloved series after five years. It received an 8/10 in GameSpot’s Borderlands 3 review for its visually distinct settings and the welcome variety between the four different classes. Critic Jordan Ramee was positive overall on his experience with Borderlands 3, though he did lament the loot-shooter’s reliance of bullet-sponge bosses.

“Borderlands 3 has a few stumbling blocks when it comes to bosses, but these fights are overshadowed by the game’s rewarding gunplay and over-the-top humor,” he wrote. “The game’s character-driven narrative acts as a satisfying finale for the loot-shooter franchise, and the new mechanics and features–especially the reworked skill trees and weapon manufacturer effects–give you plenty of agency in how you want to play through it.”
