Gearbox Software has released the full patch notes for the latest update for Borderlands 3, now live in the game. The update adds a new limited-time mini-event called Supercharged Crystals and makes a few in-game quality-of-life adjustments.

Supercharged Crystals ensures that all the crystals in the Takedown of the Guardian Breach, an optional endgame mission, do not lose their charge after you move away from them. Normally, these crystals lose their charge when no one is charging them–only maintaining their charge once you’ve capped them off–and if any become completely empty, then you have to restart from a checkpoint.

So basically, this mini-event ensures you can’t be wiped during the crystal charging parts of this Takedown, allowing you to more easily reach the next phase. For folks who haven’t managed to beat Takedown of the Guardian Breach, this mini-event is the ideal time to try again. Supercharged Crystals ends on January 21 at 9AM PT / 12PM ET.

Black Friday 2020 is well and truly underway, with retailers left and right offering discounts on games, accessories, and more this festive season. The Epic Games Store is the latest digital storefront to offer a smattering of Black Friday PC game deals. There are deep discounts on games both old and new, and you have until December 3 to take advantage of these deals.

You can pick up some deals on some of 2020’s biggest titles at a discount during Epic’s Black Friday sale. Watch Dogs: Legion has only been out for a handful of weeks, but you can grab it for $45 already, down from $60. GameSpot awarded it an 8/10 in our Watch Dogs: Legion review, praising its varied sandbox and free-form gameplay.

Other 2020 titles include Star Wars: Squadrons for $24, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 2 for $30, and Ghostrunner for $24. Slightly older titles with great discounts are Red Dead Redemption 2 for $40.19, Borderlands 3 for $19.79, Death Stranding for $30, and Control: Ultimate Edition for $20. Black Friday can be an exciting time if you’re looking to stock up on games or have some money burning a hole in your pocket. And while being able to get recent releases like Watch Dogs: Legion or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on sale already is great, it still means spending upwards of $30 on a single game. Especially with the ongoing pandemic, spending that much right now might be difficult. Fortunately, there are also lots of great game deals that are easier on your wallet.

Whether it’s triple-A exclusives that have since come down in price getting a discount or terrific indies seeing a price cut, you have some stellar options for games that won’t cost you more than $10 this Black Friday. That’s particularly true in the various digital sales on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One games (with those latter two being playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, respectively), but however you like to shop, you can get something for cheap.

God of War (PS4)

The most recent entry in the God of War series was a follow-up to earlier entries, but it also served as something of a reboot, centering the story around an older Kratos and his son, Atreus. With combat revolving around the new Leviathan Axe weapon (think Thor and his hammer, complete with the ability to recall it from a distance), it proved to be a very welcome reinvention of the franchise and an essential game for action fans.

Horizon Zero Dawn – Complete Edition (PS4)

One of the most exciting new franchises Sony’s first-party studios established during the PS4 generation was Horizon, and the Complete Edition can be had for just $10. This includes the base game and Frozen Wilds DLC. Zero Dawn puts you in a post-apocalyptic world filled with animal-like machines that you’ll have to contend with in battles that can border on Monster Hunter territory.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (Xbox One)

Hellblade was one of our favorite games when it first released in 2017 and for good reason. Developer Ninja Theory tells a harrowing story of a young woman dealing with past trauma, and while the narrative certainly deals with serious subject matter, it actually makes for quite the uplifting story.

Bastion (Nintendo Switch)

The first-ever game from Supergiant Games–makers of one of 2020’s best games, Hades–Bastion is an action-RPG that’s still great fun thanks to its incredible soundtrack and timeless visuals. It also features a terrific performance from Logan Cunningham as the narrator who lends the entire experience a distinct feel.

Gears 5 (Xbox One/Series X/S)

$5 (was $40)

The latest entry in the Gears of War series is, like other first-party games, included in Xbox Game Pass. But if you’re not a subscriber or want to own it, $5 gets you a huge package, with a full campaign (including new open-world elements), competitive multiplayer, and the co-op Horde mode. A recent Series X/S enhancement patch makes Gears 5 one of the best-looking games on the market, and it’s one of the few on console with 120fps support for those who own compatible displays.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (PS4)

$10 (was $20)

The Uncharted series lets you live out the fantasy of basically being Indiana Jones, and if that sounds appealing to you, you can get remastered versions of the first three entries for a mere $10. Expect a lot of shooting, swinging on ropes, hidden treasure, and leaps across chasms that require you to grab onto a ledge with just your fingertips–you know, typical hero stuff.

Transistor (Nintendo Switch)

$4 (was $20)

Transistor is another game from Hades developer Supergiant, and it builds on the action-RPG foundation of Bastion. It introduces a new skill customization system and turn-based element where you’re able to freeze time and take more considered actions in combat. But it, too, features a standout soundtrack from Darren Korb and another winning performance from voice actor Logan Cunningham.

Kingdom Hearts III (PS4/Xbox One)

$10 (was $60)

Kingdom Hearts III is the latest core entry in the long-running Kingdom Hearts series, which sees you teaming up with various Disney characters like Donald Duck and Goofy and visiting worlds inspired by both Disney and Pixar franchises. The story might be hard to follow if you aren’t caught up on the series, but you can expect a colorful, fun time in any event.

Nioh 2 (PS4)

$10 (was $40)

Having released just back in March, it’s easy to forget about Nioh 2 when we’ve gotten big-name action game releases like Ghost of Tsushima and Demon’s Souls since. But Nioh 2 is worth a look as well, particularly at this price–it features an evolution of the strong combat system from the first Nioh, though you should come prepared for a difficult experience.

Titanfall 2: Ultimate Edition (Xbox One)

$4.49 (was $30)

Titanfall 2 was given short shrift by being released so close to some other big-name shooters, but it’s nonetheless one of the best first-person shooters of the generation. The multiplayer still holds up well (and does still have an active, if small, player base), but the price of admission is worth paying for the terrific campaign alone.

Dishonored 2 (PC)

$8 (was $40)

The best of the Dishonored games (which is no low bar), Dishonored 2 lets you choose between playing as returning protagonist Corvo or Emily Kaldwin, each with their own unique set of powers. Whether you want to take a more aggressive approach or remain in the shadows without ever killing a soul, you’ll have a huge degree of freedom in deciding how to approach its elaborately designed levels–the most memorable of which, A Crack in the Slab, is among the best you’ll find in any game.

Rare Replay (Xbox One)

$10 (was $30)

Rare is a beloved developer, and Rare Replay is a nice commemoration of that, packing together versions of many of its classic games, ranging from Battletoads to Perfect Dark to Viva Pinata. Want some platforming? Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie are there. Want to be sad? Perfect Dark Zero’s included. While it might be missing the vaunted Donkey Kong Country games, this is still tremendous value to have so many games in one bundle.

Yakuza Kiwami (PS4)

$6 (was $20)

Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the first game in the series, making it a perfect entry point for newcomers to the franchise. While the prequel Yakuza 0 also makes for a good place to start, jumping in with Kiwami will allow you to follow along with the story progression as it originally unfolded. As with any Yakuza, you’ll get a mix of very serious drama and wacky side stories that make for the series’ trademark blend.

Bloodborne (PS4)

$10 (was $20)

Bloodborne is yet another Souls-like game from From Software, but even if you’ve had trouble clicking with others, this one might be better suited to your style due to the way it encourages aggressive play. Featuring a dark world full of shortcuts, deadly enemies, and terrifying bosses to conquer, it’s quite the journey for only $10.

Doom (PC/Xbox One)

$6 (was $20)

2016’s Doom was a reinvention of the dormant shooter series, providing a high-octane shooter that is sure to get your heart rate up. Unlike many first-person shooters, it’s also a game that can’t be played from cover–you’ll be forced to stay on the move as you’re flanked and made to feel uncomfortable, leading to a thrilling gameplay loop where you’ll never feel safe.

Borderlands 3 (PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Series S/X)

$10 (was $20)

Borderlands 3 is the latest entry in the irreverent, loot-based action series. There have been numerous pieces of DLC releases for it, but the base game included here is substantial in its own right, and notably, it includes a free upgrade to the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S versions for those with a next-gen console. Expect to collect a bunch of guns with a wide range of perks while playing as one of the new characters (including one who can summon a giant bipedal mech she can pilot).

Pikuniku (Nintendo Switch)

Pikuniku is a perfect game to brighten your mood. It’s a silly 2D platformer where you play as a sort of blob with legs who has to navigate the world, solving various puzzles to help people with their problems. It’s all very charming, and can you really place a price on putting a smile on your face? You can, and it’s $3.24.

Black Friday week has officially begun, and from now through Cyber Monday, online retailers will be offering their best prices of the year on games and electronics. That includes digital storefronts like Xbox Live, which has kicked off its annual sale on digital Xbox games, including 2020 releases like Watch Dogs Legion and Star Wars Squadrons.

We’re less than two weeks away from Black Friday 2020, and we’re already seeing a large number of deals that gamers can expect. Retailers like GameStop, Best Buy, and Target have released their Black Friday 2020 ads, and Xbox players can expect quite a few games and accessories on sale during the big sale week. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot puts you in the shoes of the series’ lovable protagonist, Goku. You’ll play through all of Dragon Ball Z’s sagas from the Saiyan Saga right through the Buu Saga. Once you’re done with that, there’s DLC that’ll let you play through the first two sagas of Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball fans will get a huge kick out of this action-RPG, especially at $20 during Black Friday.

Borderlands 3 released last year and proved to be a fun, content-filled RPG shooter. It’s going to get a free next-gen upgrade in the near future, so if you want to get in on all of the looting and shooting, Black Friday is a great chance to pick it up for only $10 at GameStop.

Mortal Kombat 11 is one of the best fighting games out there right now, and developer NetherRealm Studios has done a great job of supporting it. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection compiles all of the DLC fighters except Kombat Pack 3, which releases November 17. You can pick this up for only $27 during Black Friday and then buy the DLC to complete the package. Mortal Kombat 11 also comes with a free next-gen upgrade for Xbox Series X and S.

The FIFA series rarely falters, and FIFA 21 is no different. This year’s entry makes meaningful changes to passing and player responsiveness as well as adding more modes to the FIFA Street-like Volta Football. GameStop is selling FIFA 21 for only $27 during Black Friday.

PGA Tour 2K21 is the first game 2K has branded as part of 2K Sports, and thankfully, it’s a great first outing. Following several titles from The Golf Club series, PGA Tour 2K21 brings an excellent game of golf with 15 real PGA Tour courses and tournaments. It’s $27 during Black Friday at GameStop.

This year’s football game adds The Yard, a new arcade-y mode that’s great in short bursts. It’s one of the best additions in recent years, and if you want to snag Madden NFL 21 on the cheap, then you can do so for $27 at GameStop.

The next big update coming to Borderlands 3 is the Designer’s Cut, which launches on November 10. As the start of the game’s second year of content, it introduces a whole suite of changes, upgrades, and a new mode for players to dive into and experiment with. Previously, we’ve shown off one facet of the Designer’s Cut update in the form of the new skill trees and abilities for each of the vault hunters. However, the other significant addition coming is Arms Race, which adds in a new way to play the looter-shooter.

We had the chance to get some early hands-on time with Arms Race, and experienced how much it changes the flow of Borderlands 3 and how it leans even further into the core gunplay of the game. To start the quest to play Arms Race, you’ll need to access the player hub, Sanctuary 3. While exploring the main hall, players will get a message from returning Borderlands 2 vault hunters Axton and Salvador, who now host a new competition where players get dropped into a battle zone filled with new enemies, bosses, and some fresh loot.

The new map is on Pandora, set in a place called the Stormblind Complex. Formerly a Dahl weapons factory, it’s been turned into a large battle zone filled with treasure caches for Arms Race. You’re dropped into a random section of the map, and much like in a battle royale game, you have to arm yourself with whatever gear you can find. In addition to coming into Arms Race without weapons or shields, your vault hunter will also have their action-skills and perks disabled–meaning that your survival all depends on quick reflexes and the loot you can find.

Borderlands 3 pays homage to the battle royale craze with its new Arms Race mode. Here’s gameplay of a full match set on a new map filled with new foes to fight and special guns to find.

Borderlands 3 is getting even more content for its second season pass, and a recent Borderlands Show stream laid out the plans in detail. A newly revealed Borderlands 3 Ultimate Edition will include all the content from both season passes, along with some new cosmetics.

The first addition is coming on November 10 with the new Arms Race mode, part of the Designer’s Cut expansion. That expansion also includes a new set of skill trees for all four Vault Hunters. Both the Designer’s Cut and another expansion coming next spring, the Director’s Cut, is included with Season Pass 2.

To sweeten the pot, Gearbox is adding a new set of cosmetics called the Multiverse Final Form cosmetic packs. Rather than mere recolors, these are entirely different character models. Like your regular character models, they can be customized with the usual bodies, heads, and skins. The new cosmetics are included if you already own the Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition or the original Season Pass.

Borderlands 3 is coming to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 at launch, and the next-gen versions of the game have now reached a major milestone. The official Borderlands Twitter account has announced that the game has been certified for release on both systems–meaning, essentially, that it has gone gold.

Owners of the game on PS4 or Xbox One will be able to upgrade for free within the same console family. Because of this, the game won’t come bundled with DLC by default–you’ll need to buy that separately.

These versions of the game will run at 4K/60fps, and support four-player split-screen multiplayer. There’s a second season pass coming to the game, too, so there will be plenty of content updates to keep you playing.
