Cyberpunk 2077 – ACPAs & Power Armor! (Lore!)

Today we are talking about ACPAs or Assisted Combat Personnel Armor, some of the styles, how they operate, their weaponry and uses in Cyberpunk 2020 and potentially Cyberpunk 2077.

Powered Armor as defined in the Heavy Artillery sourcebook is a combat environment suit which 1 has been augmented with rigid or semi rigid composite plates of armor and 1 assists the wearer in carrying its own considerable bulk, and that of the various weapon and utility devices through some sort of powered assist.

With the introduction of Power Armor, a new category of professional Solos began to gain momentum, who could be compared to the brute jet-fight pilots who are well versed in their heavy artillery and equipment. These Solos were called Troopers, with a special ability called Combat Sense like regular Solos but specialized for ACPAs.

Powered Armor have a large array of weaponry and can fit into one of three categories in Smart-Linked, Targeted or Guided.
Smart Linked ranged weapons are machine guns, portable cannons and other simple projectiles, targeted ranged weapons have parabolic trajectories without guidance systems like unguided rockets and propelled grenades, and guided ranged weapons are luxuries on the battle field that virtually assure a successful hit by locking on, such as anti-vehicle and air missiles.
Next let’s jump into the components of what makes up an ACPA and how it’s integral to the Trooper on the battlefield.
Power Armor became feasible with the birth and development of the linear frame, a metal and plastic scaffold of synthetic musculature and rigid supports.

With traditional linear frames not being strong enough for ACPAs, and with R&D teams envisioning the ability for troopers to be able to run, rip open doors and carry heavy artillery, they needed an incredible strong frame. In a rare collaboration Militech and Orbital Air developed an extremely light weight frame made of a crystalline poly-nucleotide lattice and plastisteel fibre.

The quality and composition of armor plates found in PA suits worldwide vary.

All ACPA suits are considered watertight down to 30m and have a filter / rebreather system that allows for 1 hour of sealed operation. They are driven by a fuel cell that allows them to operate for 24 hours straight, although they can be replaced in the field. Pilots and troopers wear skintight, low-friction bodysuits which act as cooling garments, and the ACPA itself requires the wearer to have interface plugs with a vehicle link in his processor.

A suit’s reality interface is integral to the function of the unit. This makes armor combat look a lot like netrunning. Its usually placed in the helmet, and the simplest implementation of this is the aperture-based reality interface. This relies on openings in the helmet protected by projectile resistant glass or plastic but leads to the same vision restrictions as a medieval knight.

Enhanced aperture adds additional lenses and auditory receptors to the suit, to improve peripheral vision and wideband aperture enhances upon this by adding smart targeting and adjusting lenses to help again with peripheral vision.

Full-HUD Wideband adds automatic targeting and an acquisition system whilst environment calculating integrated wideband HUD adds computer power for the trooper to interpret the geometry of the terrain.

Virtual Reality interfaces are the best and interpret the environment for pilot with sophisticated graphics and auditory warning. This is where Troopers and Netrunners are effectively one in the same in how they use their interfaces.

ACPAs also have reflex and control systems that regulate how the Trooper interacts with the outside world via his neural interface plugs and vehicle link. From basic control which is essentially the full range of human motion to high boost to command and control computers which allow increased neuromuscular function and highly automated actions to occur respectively.

ACPAs are equipped with auto-doctors which are automated medical systems to help improve a Trooper’s combat survivability. Examples from lowest tier to highest include the RussianArm KwikFix, the Arasaka Monitor, The Bodyweight Medic, the Militech Repeater and the Orbital Air prime.

Safety systems are also integral for ACPAs and escape hatches are on most units. Self-sealing compressors, food and filtration systems, extended power cells and life support are seen in some ACPAs depending on what they are being used for.

Power Armours are also equipped with audio visual means of communication including satellite uplinks, cell phones, radio links, scramblers, laser communicators, thermal targeting, image enhancement, radar and more.

When it comes to movement ACPAs can climb using sets of blades similar to wolvers, and fly using jets, gliders or Flyer wings. They can also skate around at high speeds and utilize an underwater jet to use at depth.

Cyberpunk 2077 – Frequently Asked Questions! (FAQ – Part 2!)

In todays Cyberpunk 2077 video we have part 2 of our Frequently Asked Cyberpunk 2077 Questions including Damage Types, Red Engine 4, Tattoos + Piercings, Female Companions, Levelling up and Stats, Politics, DLC and Expansions as well as supported languages
.
First we have Just exactly what engine Cyberpunk 2077 will be run on. Now the witcher 3 ran on Red Engine 3, and Cyberpunk 2077 will run on Red Engine 4, an upgraded version of their last red engine. I know a ton of games, don’t update their engines, but Red Engine 4 is the next evolution in CD PROJEKT RED’s lineup.

Next up is if there will be tattoos and piercings. There will be a multitude of customization options and we do see tattoos, and piercings. There is a slider with tattoos including this MAX TAC Forever tattoo and in the gameplay reveal you can pick 10 preset locations, the color of the tattoo as well as the glow color.

Piercings are also available in this menu, although we don’t get to see what options we have. We’ll probably get more traditional spots and jewelry, as well as some fancier more punk types of piercings.

Next up we have damage and damage types. I’ve seen some questions about only seeing physical damage in the demo, and if there will be additional types such as energy based weapons. Whilst weapons will fall into tech, power and smart categories, weapon damage specifically will be either Thermal, EMP, Physical and Chemical. We can see these damage types after we use our Kiroshi optic to analyze targets weaknesses and our Samurai jacket has resistances to these specific types of damage.

Next we have a detail about companions. We mentioned companion systems in part one, but a question that has been asked is if Jackie specifically changes based on what sex of character we personally choose in our playthrough. If we choose a male, Jackie stays male and the interaction between Male V and Jackie will be different.
Now female companions will be featured in the game, so worry not about diversity there.

Next question is when did production actually start on the game, and what is CD PROJEKT RED’s Marketing plan. Contrary to what many believe, full production started only after the Hearts of Stone Witcher 3 DLC was released. This means that CD PROJEKT RED has only been in full production of the game since 2015, making 2019 the 4thyear they have had full focus on 2077.

Marketing and planning is not done on the fly and is instead carefully crafted before-hand. The promotional campaign is already fully planned out and will rely on the best element, surprise. We’e already seen this with the surprise of the gameplay demo which we got hit with out of the blue.

Next is a question about running the game on the base model of the xbox one and PS4. It Seems like a lot of people are worried that they’ll need to upgrade to an Xbox one x and PS4 pro. Check out this recent tweet where CD PROJEKT RED says any PS4 will do when looking to run the game.

Next is Progression and what avenues we can take to level up and increase our characters stats. Now there are a variety of different attributes you can assign points into. As you level up, you can put more points in whatever respective attribute you want to increase based on how you want to play Cyberpunk 2077. You can also increase these attributes by installing and upgrading your body cybernetics and cyberware. Skills which are in different trees, are increasing by successfully performing actions like hacking, crafting and by using everything from melee to ranged weapons. Perks that your character can use are unlocked via Street cred, which is obtained through missions and sidequests . General XP is gained through actions throughout the world.

Next we have concern over politics being in the game. Now The genre of Cyberpunk by nature is layered in political and social commentary. That’s kind of the whole the point of the genre of Cyberpunk. This does mean indeed that politics will be involved in the game. Cyberpunk is about people at the top amassing all the power, and everyone else being filth and struggling in poverty. CD PROJEKT RED will not be shying away from this due to the genre being inherently political, and the franchise will follow suit.

Next we have if we can expect the same policies of Free DLC and Expansions like TW3. We’ve seen their stance on this when they say “Expect nothing less than what you got with the witcher 3 when it comes to DLC and Free expansions. As for DRM, CP2077 will be 100% DRM free on PC, meaning you will not need an internet connection and you could theoretically pirate the game, although I’ll always advocate against that, especially if you want to support a great developer.

Finally we have What languages will be supported in Cyberpunk 2077? So far we have English, polish, German, Spanish, Italian, French, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Portuguese, Hungarian, Czech and Arabic.
