Would A Cyberpunk 2077 Netflix Series Be A Hit?

Dissecting what a Cyberpunk 2077 Netflix series would mean for the franchise, How The Witcher Netflix became such a success and it’s ripple effect, Henry Cavill vs Keanu Reeves and celebrity presences, some existing Cyberpunk styled productions and shows and how this is a real possibility based off movements CDPR have already made with their Cyberpunk IP is the topic of todays Cyberpunk 2077 video!

The Witcher Netflix despite lukewarm critic scores, has been an overwhelming success in terms of audience and fan reception, straight up views and interest generated, as well as for the entities attached to the project. The Witcher Netflix crushed it in its United States Debut, and although Netflix tends to keep their numbers close to their chest, third party analytics have it pinned just behind Stranger Things and The Mandalorian in terms of recent Original Series and their impressive metrics.

Let’s be honest here, amongst the gaming population The Witcher has almost unanimously been praised especially the 3rd installment and has rocketed CD PROJEKT RED to the top of many open world RPG and gaming enthusiasts lists in terms of respect, notoriety and quality.
The Witcher Netflix single-handedly helped The Witcher 3 break its population numbers on Steam.

Henry Cavill and the Netflix name has furthermore pushed The Witcher to a much more mainstream audience, putting the series and the name in the living rooms of those who are detached from the video gaming world, but still consume modern entertainment as almost all of us who have a tv set or internet access do.

Now extrapolate this to the potential of a Cyberpunk Netflix, TV Series or movie, it has the ability to proliferate across the world and become a success. Cyberpunk 2077 is undoubtably more popular than The Witcher games, at least in terms of initial intrigue. YouTube is a decent barometer for gauging public interest, and here we can see the numbers behind the trailers of The Witcher vs Cyberpunk. There is quite the discrepancy.

This is partially due to the CD PROJEKT RED name being held in higher regard with the gaming population as time goes on, but I also think the Cyberpunk genre is something fresh and exciting for consumers, even if the actual genre dates back quite some time ago. This resurgence of the concept of high tech low life parallels nicely with our real world acceleration of technology, AI vs what it means to be human, the escapism of smartphones and being bombarded with the digitization of the world at every corner, as well as social media which is often times the source of politically and socially charged rumors, misinformation, opinions and statements.

Now assume a series or movie launch that is within the predictable realm of how successful Cyberpunk 2077 as a game will be. It already has the Celebrity endorsement to make the game itself more popular amongst the population who don’t play video games, which in itself is opening the video gaming space to more people without even the need for a Netflix or TV adaptation. Combine this with the pedigree for CDPR to craft expert stories and polarizing characters.

Altered Carbon was one of the first if not the first Cyberpunk themed project to be picked up by Netflix, and it has been a somewhat niche success. The genre is picking up steam again with more main-stream adaptations of a live action Akira, the Matrix 4 and more Ghost In The Shell SAC 2045 slated for the next couple of years.

Cyberpunk on the big screen can do something it’s genre-based predecessors behind it has for the most part not done, and that is having overwhelmingly positive ratings to a larger and non-niche audience.

The co-creator of 2077 and the main man behind its source material believes that a Cyberpunk 2077 movie would strike the balance between heady and thoughtful questions, action, emotion and impressive and vibrant locations and sequences.

Mike Pondsmith mentions in an interview that “At this point we are teaching people about this new kind of Cyberpunk. My favorite film is Blade Runner, but I recognize inherently that it’s a cerebral film and 2049 was even more cerebral.”

If you’ve had a chance to read any of the source books from the early 90s that Cyberpunk 2077 is based upon, it immediately becomes apparent in how many different directions one can take when developing a poignant, and provoking script. It’s incredibly fleshed out, researched and well written in an attempt to predict and tell compelling stories about the issues of the future.

The Witcher as an IP is great because it’s built on the foundation of having the strong works of Andrej Sapkowski, and Cyberpunk cranks that up 10-fold with over 4000 pages of history and lore. The best works of film many times come from already popular books, but there are also a ton of books and content equally as engaging that would be perfect for the big screen.

Cyberpunk 2077 News – 3 Cyberpunk Projects, New Screenshots, Sex & Romance & MORE!

In today’s Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk 2077 News we have yet another densely filled News episode for you guys including details about 3 Cyberpunk games in development for CD PROJEKT RED and clarification on exactly what that means, Refused as the in-game band Samurai, the full release of Chippin In by CD PROJEKT RED and the Samurai EP details, a full analysis of new screenshots from a German Magazine , Cyberpunk 2077’s prologues and how they are connected to lifepath choices, A Cyberpunk 2077 movie possibility, romance and sex options in Night City and much much more!
First we have new details via a Polish economics website called Bankier.pl writing about a CD PROJEKT RED meeting or conference where we learn about future Cyberpunk titles. Now earlier in the week it was largely reported on from a Google translate version of this Bankier Article that CD PROJEKT RED was currently developing 3 Cyberpunk projects including Cyberpunk 2077.

This information comes directly from CDPR president Adam Kicinski who mentions that there are 3 teams working on Cyberpunk “Things – the main game and two more projects.”
Piotr Nielubowicz also stated “Our next big project will also be in the Cyberpunk universe, and we’re already working on it and treating it as a really big and innovative project for us.”
CD PROJEKT RED recently clarified to the media after the Bankier article saying that they have 5 teams in total with 3 focused on the development of Cyberpunk 2077, one for gwent and one for an unannounced mobile title in conjunction with Spokko. “These include CD PROJEKT RED Warsaw and Krakow handling the main game of Cyberpunk 2077, and the Wroclaw studio where there are 40 industry specialists engaged in research and development.”
Wroclaw is most likely for the Multiplayer component to Cyberpunk which may come out post launch.

Just as a final note, Kicinski also mentions in that the beginning of 2020 we will get a strong does of Cyberpunk information and that industry journalists will already be playing it and writing about it.

Next we have some details on the Music of Samurai a legendary rock band in the Cyberpunk Universe lead by Johnny Silverhand. CD PROJEKT RED released their updated version of Chippin In by Samurai who will be represented by the sounds of Swedish rock band Refused. This Chippin In version really represents the aggression of chromatic rock much better.

Further details from Marcin Pryzbylowicz state that the Samurai EP will feature songs such as Black Dog and Never Fade Away from the lore as well as songs exclusively created for Cyberpunk 2077.

Next we have a new screenshot via GamePro.de magazine from Germany. In this screenshot we see the arm of V breaking through the rubble of a seemingly deserted area of the outskirts of the city much like what we saw in the ending to the E3 2019 CGI trailer.

Moving onto the image itself we have a Militech revolver which we we can see being used by Male V in the cover art and by Dexter Deshawn in the CGI trailer. The figure looks like what Morgan Blackhand, one of the best Solos from 2020 lore would look like with his signature trenchcoat. If we zoom in, this could be blackhand based on a redesign.

Next up we have details of 3 separate prologues for the game based on the Lifepath options we pick at the beginning. In details from Pawel sasko he mentions that “The player in Cyberpunk 2077 can create a custom character that has one of three origin stories, that we call lifepaths: you can be Nomad, Corpo or Street Kid. Each of the Lifepaths have a different starting location and story background that are strongly connected with the origin story. Anything more I say can reveal too much from the story, so I will leave it like this.” We also know from previous statements that our outfits will be different based on our Life path options.

Next we have details about romances, sex, NPC and getting friendzoned in Night City. Again from lead designer Pawel Sasko we learn a little bit more about how relationships have the potential to unfold. Pawel says NPCs will have their own goals, motivations and needs and thus there will be scenarios where NPCs will choose a friendship over a relationship.
He goes on to mentions that some relationships will be hard to cultivate and that NPCs will have some preferences that are impossible to change which leads to characters feeling genuine and real.

Next we have some weapon customization details. Mateus Tomaszkiewicz spoke to GamingBolt where he said that you can customize your weapons in a variety of ways including scopes and silencers and specific weapons will have a certain amount of slots for these.

Moving on we have some details about the nature of Cyberpunk and Cyberpunk 2077 from the man himself Mike Pondsmith. In some recent articles he dives into the expansiveness of the world, the politics of Cyberpunk and the potential for a Hollywood movie for Cyberpunk.
