Cyberpunk 2077 News – UNSEEN Gameplay From Polish Event & Tons Of 2077 Lore Revealed!

An unlisted video on the Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube page which reveals some unseen gameplay sections that can be seen in the background footage, an exclusive preview of the Cyberpunk 2077 Lore book and some new 2077 world building details via IGN, New characters being revealed, one who has quite an interesting name, and new district information about Westbrook which seems to be a favorite of the developers all in todays Cyberpunk 2077 News!

First let’s check out some new characters tweeted out by the Cyberpunk 2077 twitter page. First we have Mr Jenkins who is part of the corporate Origin story. Next we have a new character named Mr Goldhand.

Next, lets get into this unlisted video of the Polish Hands on preview event from CDPR.

First we have another look at the braindance scene where Evelyn Parker leader of the Mox is wooing be Yorinobu Arasaka or another Arasaka higher up.

We also get a little tease at the new menu UI in these very brief frames. It cuts out prematurely so we can’t see much but it looks like they’ve gone back to the red deisng versus the brown UI of the deep dive.

At 1:33 we have the Darra handcannon from the Gig Trailer being unloaded into Royce in the Maelstrom lair. This appears to be this area from the Gig trailer, which has since been changed from the 48 minute demo.

Next we also see a updated version of the point from the 48 minute demo where Dum Dum greets you. The visuals are on par with the more recent footage we’ve seen and CDPR has really made the characters look more threatening, with their overall more grimier and dark aesthetic.

We also have a player showcasing a meeting with again Moxy Leader evenlyn parker. We see a prompt with 4 dialogue options as well as a mini map showing a smaller location on the top right, likely the Lizzies Bar. We also follow Evelyn into the bar in a brief sequence later on and talk to her as we sit.

In another super brief segment we have a car driving up to what seems to be some pretty massive buildings at night.

Moving on we have some exclusive new details and screenshots from IGN n their exclusive preview of the upcoming World of Cyberpunk 2077 lore book. We have an introduction page which showcases just where the world stands from the point of view of the Night City Inquirer a media group dedicated to exposing the truths on corporations.

Chapter 2 of the book features all the important facets of cyberware, weapons, vehicles, braindance and netrunning. Helicopters, AVs, cars and trucks, drones, ACPAs or power armor and even speedboats are mentioned when it comes to vehicles. Diving into some straight up 2077 lore about the history of vehicles post 4th corporate war, and the origins of the fuel CHOOH2. Due to global crises, AVs became almost completely absent.

Civilian and military aircrafts took priority, as the petroleum industry’s lack of stability resulted in the innovations of new ways to fuel a vehicle.
Fossil fuels were used once again, although a major breakthrough in 2041 in Europe called induction-wheel tech became the new go to.

In America however, years of research by Biotechnica developed a strain of Triticum vulgaris megasuavias, a type of high sugar wheat which is the main ingredient in CHOOH2, that was resistant to the biovirus that had previously almost wiped it out.

This allowed the production of CHOOH2 to resume, prices to drop, and the resurgence of the AV. In 2077 AVs are a sign of luxury and are used mainly by the upper class, police and military, and the corporations.

Next we have a page on everyone’s favorite subject netrunning and the net. The net pre 4th corporate war was able to store all kinds of data, files and corporate secrets. You’d interact with it using a computer or a cybermoden and an interface, which allowed you to experience the net in 3 dimensions.
In 2077 the Net is no more. It was destroyed by corporate attacks, and the parting gift of one dead man, who isn’t mentioned here but is most likely Rache Bartmoss.

Moving right along we have new concept art and details on the district of Westbrook. In a post CDPR describes it as follows. “Westbrook – Many consider it to be the best place to live and have fun in Night City. It’s where the richest and most influential members of society reside. But it wasn’t always like that. Back in 2023, after the nuclear attack on Arasaka, the part of Westbrook next to the City Center sustained significant damage, turning skyscrapers into ghostly, crooked skeletons for the next 2 decades.

North Oak used to see crime rates that measured higher than any other district, but with the attentive help of mercenaries, order has been well and truly restored. Now, North Oak is home to Night City’s untouchable elite. Today, this is the most beautiful neighborhood in Night City.

Any aspiring and ambitious corpo that cannot afford to live in North Oak lives in Charter Hill.

If you’ve got the eddies you come to Japantown to spend them.

The Cyberpunk 2077 History & Lore In 5 Minutes!

The history of the Cyberpunk 2077, from Cyberpunk 2020 and Cyberpunk Red to get you up to speed on the state of the word, the US and of course Night City in just a few minutes in today’s Cyberpunk 2077 lore video.

The origins of the Cyberpunk World started with the 1994 crash of the world stock market as a result of European and American stock manipulation by the Gang of Four. This led to The Collapse of the United states in 1996 which was the definitive catalyst plunging the world into a high tech and low life.

During the years of The Collapse, life was pretty rough in the States. The homeless on the street in America had skyrocketed to 21 million, with the technological revolution splitting the classes into the wealthy elite & corporate professionals, and the poor unskilled blue collar workers. THe middle class was all but eradicated during this time, setting the foundation for more despair in the 2000s.

Business sectors and outer suburbs in large cities were the benefactors of increased standards, and were clean, free of crime and poverty and controlled and populated by powerful corporations whose emergence was accelerated by the prior years. The central areas were surrounded by ghettos and combat zones filled with the growing booster gangs and violent factions.

In the midwestern states, small towns were abandoned due to drought, gamine and economic chaos. Farms were bought out by Agri Corporations who took control of the means of production. Freeways inevitably became the battlegrounds for gangs that would travel from city to city to loot anything they could.

Megacities which replaced some small towns and suburbs annihilated in the Collapse became the focal points of society and fervent capitalism helped create a landscape where the megacorporations ruled with nation-like authority. They shaped everything around them and bolstered their interests with armies in their search for utter domination. With the overall prevalence of technology, the only leveler between the street and the skyscrapers was this technology. Cyberware, weapons and resourcefulness was utilized by Edgerunners, Cyberpunks and rebels to stand against these megacorporations.

This was the state of the world before the next radical shift, The 4th Corporate War in 2021. While there had been wars between corporations before, nothing quite compared to the mass scale devastation of the 4th corporate war. An initial confrontation between two aquacorps specializing in underwater shipping and tech, devolved into a conflict between Militech an armaments and security force and Arasaka a security services megacorp out of Japan, as they were brought on to aid in the initial conflict.

Both combatants had a military scale equivalent to smaller nations and moved from pockets of conflict between them, to all over the nation, to space and cyberattacks spurring an effective 3rd world war.

On august 20, 2023 unknown forces detonated a pocket nuke on the upper floors of an Arasaka towers complex in Night City, reducing the central city to rubble and killing thousands of people.

While there were sides who blamed both Arasaka and Militech this was the final straw, as President Elizabeth Kress nationalized Militech, and banished Arasaka with the threats of striking the Tokyo headquarters. Other nations swiftly followed the US’s lead.

The war was over, and for Night City, led to the Time of the Red. Named aptly for the red hue left in the Night City skies post fallout from the debris and toxic smog, this was a period of time in the US and Night City’s history which was categorized by an effort to rebuild. The US has lost much of its world superpower status, but Europe and the Far East had not fared much better. The military that still existed for the US was a combined operations group or COG force, and indication of how emaciated their separate forces were.

President Kress was the only thing holding Night City together, the hardest place hit by the war. 20 Years later there is still damage everywhere. Post-war night city is a wreck, but they are determined to rebuild. An alliance known as the Pacifica Confederation, between Washington, Origins, Idaho, North Cal and BC has allowed Night City to survive as an independent “City state”. Night City has become an entry point for the rest of the world who doesn’t want to deal with the US, as a free trade zone. It is dangerous, nearly lawless and a great place to get a big score.

The 4th Corporate war ended corpo domination, and wounded their infrastructure in a multitude of ways from their net presence to their global transportation means. The corporates however are far from out of the picture.

This has made the corporations even more ruthless in their desire to rise back to power, and they are willing to do anything to do so. In this post-war environment, the Cyberpunks and the Edgerunners have bridged the power gap.

Welcome to the world of Cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk 2077 Life Paths Explained! (Street Kid, Corporate & Nomad!)

Life paths are part of the character creator where you can pick your characters back or origin story which will represent their life up to the point of where the game starts. It is deeply rooted in Cyberpunk 2077’s tabletop lineage as life paths were one of the core elements in the tabletop character creator. Life paths have also replaced the Childhood hero tab seen in the 2018 48 minute demo. Also note that whatever Life path option you choose, you still won’t be able to join factions or gangs, but you will be able to work with them.

In Cyberpunk 2077, we have 3 origin story options:

We have the Street Kid, the Nomad and the Corporate.

For Street Kid the game describes it as follows. They say if you wanna understand the streets, you’ve gotta live em. Gangs, fixers, dolls, small time pushers. You were raised by them all. Down here the law of the jungle dictates the weak serve the strong – the only law in Night City you has yet to break.

Nomads are described as Roaming the badlands, looting scrapyards, & raiding fuel depots – life on the road wasn’t easy. But growing up in a Nomad clan has it’s perks. Honesty, integrity and a love of freedom – qualities only a few in Night City possess, and no amount of money can buy.

Finally we have the corporate. Few leave the corporate world with their lives – fewer still with their souls intact. You’ve been there – you’ve bent the rules exploited the secrets and weaponized information. There’s no such thing as a fair game, only winners & losers.

Now what effect will Life paths have in the game? There are a few so lets discuss them.

First your Lifepath choice will unlock unique dialogue options with groups and factions aligned with your origins. By picking a specific lifepath you will able to unlock different dialogue options at key moments. Pawel Sasko has hinted at Meredith Stout offering you more options, potentially romantic ones if you have followed the Corporate origin story, assuming you are still aligned with Corpos based of your choices.

This brings me to my next point where your lifepath is not set in stone and will ebb and flow with your in game choices. If you are a Street Kid aligning with gangs, and disenfranchised factions in night city, you can choose to betray them in favor of your corporate overlords as you progress.

Each lifepath will start in a different starting location in Night City and you will be at a different place in life overall. You will have a different introductory questline, and equipment which will be strongly connected to your specific origin story. As you progress you will be introduced to the chip and Johnny, although it hasn’t been mentioned if that will be in a different way for each life path. Lifepaths will stretch the entirety of the game, and not only will you open up different dialogue options like previously stated, but you will also unlock specific side quests based off your Lifepath.

Although there is only one apartment in the game, each Lifepath will look different based upon what life path you choose and will also change over the course of the game.

Going back to the source material of Cyberpunk 2020 lets also talk a little about the origins of these roles and classes. The source material has 9 distinct character roles. This includes the Rockerboy, Media, Cop, Fixer, Corporate, Nomad, Solo, Netrunner and Techie.

Now the Solo, Netrunner and Techie are going to be featured in CD PROJEKT RED’s hybrid class system. These will be the physical, technical and hacking skills we can spec into, versus the more narrative sensitive choices of something like the Corporate and Nomad. Notice how Street Kid is not one of the original roles, but the closest thing within these roles would be the rebellious rockerboy, a class that like the Street kid would likely align more with the streets than the Corpos.

Cyberpunk 2077 Lore – InfoComp!

InfoComp is an American company which provides a massive library of scientific, technical and personal data pertaining to anyone and any subject. They provide reliable, timely and accurate information to its clients including intelligence, research portfolios and carefully crafted and theorized projections. They are rumored to have the most complete compilation of information in existence and includes video footage, sound recordings, hardcopy texts, CD-ROMs, data chips, magnetic media, photographs and artwork all stored in infocomps vaults. All these different mediums have also been digitized for the modern age, creating the largest single information database.

It is also rumored that Infocomps detectives are the most advanced in the world priding themselves on their ability to compile information in a short period of time. Other megacorps, despite having their own investigative department, still rely on the vital intelligence gathered by Infocomp.
Corporate spies have a huge target on their backs, and naturally only survive mere months in the field, but many of Infocomps operatives have been in the field for almost 10 years.

In addition to compiling new data to order, infocomp also allows clients to access their existing databanks. This data is backed up in many locations but is stored mainly in the computer core at the main office. This information is highly secure due to how many places its backed up in, and just how many organizations rely on it. No one dares touch it and fracturing their intelligence and informational link. Most companies pay a huge monthly subscription in exchange for 24-hour, 7 day a week access.
InfoComp is also involved in the publishing business, with resources like the Info at Hand almanac, and the whole world encyclopedia being their most popular contributions. They also publish a small amount of reference manuals and guides, many times more complete and concise than others within that field or niche.

Few firms exist that can compete with Infocomps size and sophistication, but the occasional street level information broker can sometimes undercut the firm. InfoComp has a positive marketing strategy however and tries to work with these freelance infobros whenever possible, and they consider blood to be a big and unnecessary expense.

When the gang of four which consists of the CIA, FBI, DEA and NSA deteriorated, the US was forced to combine its intelligence services with the beltway bandits, an infamous think-tank service who had for years competed with the gang of four in data compilation charging exorbitant fees.

Radical changes in the world made the data compiled by the bandits obsolete, and the beltway bandits were effectively out of a job. Robert D Alvarez was one of these analysts out of a job and moved out west as a result. He began to formulate an idea for his own think tank corporation and started small with a handful of dedicated employees. Before long, this new start up named InfoComp had regular clients, and in 2006 absorbed Eagle Investigations and EbonTech research to grow into an industry leader.

InfoComp has the ability to find the most obscure pieces of data, but also predicts upcoming events based on trends. Offices are protected by Lazarus trained and equipped security guards. They have also been rumored to maintain a number of intelligence gathering satellites.

Cyberpunk 2077 News – Killer Clown Gang, New Gang Logos & MORE!

New official Gang Logo images, A Cyberpunk 2077 PC modding contest, some hints into seeing the Bozos, an insane clown gang in 2077, CDPR setting a new record, Gang logos & more all in today’s Cyberpunk 2077 news video!

First up let’s jump into the new PC modding contest announced by CDPR yesterday morning. This is a contest where you can design the Cyberpunk 2077 PC case of your dreams, and five professional case modding teams will make the best entries come to life.

Megacorporation logo, and on the main contest page, CDPR has attached these assets. We get to see updated looks at the logos of the gangs we have already seen, and some that we haven’t as of yet.

First up we have the logos for a new gang we haven’t seen yet called “6th street”, we have the muscled up juiceheads from Pacifica, the Animals, we have the body mod obsessed Maelstrom from Watson, we have the Moxes, which seem to sport the Lizzy Wizzy logo and might be related to The Lizzies somehow, we have the Arasaka backed Tyger Claws, from Japantown, The womanizing seduction specialists the Valentinos, and the Haitian hacker-extraordinares the Voodooboys from the Pacifica district.
These are all fantastic and I cannot wait to see some of these new gangs in game. Keep in mind these are only the main gangs, and there will be sub gangs and factions prowling night city as well.

Now speaking of Gangs, as you guys know RTalsorian the company who has licensed the Cyberpunk IP to CDPR, has been making a lot of Cyberpunk Red miniatures as of late in collaboration with monster fight club. Cyberpunk Red is a tabletop primer to 2077, and so it gives us a ton of hints about whats to come in Cyberpunk 2077.

The Bozos a killer clown gang from the lore, seems to be one of the most requested gangs in 2077, and here we see a couple miniatures from the Cyberpunk Red series which leads me to believe we will see these in the video game adaptation. First we have this more traditional penny-wise looking clown, and this augmented really colorful clown with what seems to be a squirtgun. Yes squirtguns are also in the lore, and they are typically filled with drugs, so I’d imagine this will go nicely with the Mr Studd augment for those who want to mess around and make their playthroughs a little more meme-friendly.

Moving on, check out this Cyberpunk soundtrack snippet featuring Mr Rubin who I believe was or still is the drummer for Nine Inch Nails. If this is any indication of the more punky, rock tracks in 2077 I’ll be pretty pleased.
Next up, check out some of this dedication to what seemed to be a leak of what is essentially Cyberpunk 2077’s Disneyland equivalent being built in Poland to support the game and CDPR. NightCityLife, german fan-site for Cyberpunk painstakingly set up this incredibly elaborate April Fools prank.
This fabricated leak featured tentative plans for CD PROJEKT to open a Cyberpunk 2077 nightclub in Warsaw which included a game café, a disco bar and a shopping arcade.

There were concept art pictures drafted up and a ton of promotional images and supposed evidence on socials that were absolutely amazing. Just look at this concept art, and some of these drink label designs. This was all called the Red Diamond, with the Game café modelling a netrunner themed coffeeshop, The Atlantis bar and disco, and merch via vendors in a remodeled section of Night City. There were a ton of people in on this, and I got to say, It was very convincing. Although, I’m not sure how popular a bar and disco would be amongst the gamer demographic, which kind of put a pin in this for me personally.

Incredibly well-done April Fools nonetheless, but let me know if you guys would enjoy something like this in the real world or even elements of this prank in the game. SOulkiller polish craft eer and blackhand whiskey sounds pretty awesome to me.

Cyberpunk 2077 News – CDPR Switching To Remote Work & Lore Book Update!

A colorful new image from CD PROJEKT RED in celebration of a Japanese holiday, an interview with Mike Pondsmith dissecting the Cyberpunk IP, statements from CDPR about the state of the world, how they are handling things and delays, some new Cyberpunk 2077 merch and an update on the release date of a Cyberpunk lore book are all discussed in today’s Cyberpunk 2077 News video!

First off, we have a brand-new image of a character using what again appears to be a Braindance headset. Now we saw the female variant a while ago, but this was tweeted out by CDPR Japan in celebration of what seems to be white valentines’ day. This character is bursting with color and some interesting hair, and many have likened him to this Ekko skin from League of Legends. Definitely strikes me as a similar Asian looking character to this one from the Style over substance poster, and if this is indicative of the character customization options, I know a lot of people will be happy. Gotta love the retro-futuristic clothing choices as well.

Next, we have a statement from CDPR regarding changes they are making while in the final stretch of development for Cyberpunk 2077 based on current events. It reads as follows – “Dear all, many of you are probably wondering how things are at CD PROJEKT RED and how current events influences our day to day operations. Here’s a short update. Over the past week, we have been adapting to the situation and gradually rolling out preventative measures across our entire organization. We’ve also been upgrading equipment and infrastructure and working towards enabling our employees to work remotely, from the safety of their homes.
Today, as a result of that preparation, CD PROJEKT Red switched to FULL remote work for as long as needed. We think this will grant every team member the highest level of personal health safety. And while this all is a bit new to everyone, we are rising to the challenge and showing no signs of stopping in our effort to bring you some kick-ass role-playing action in September!
Stay safe, everyone!

For fans this is great news, as there were some worries that this disruption would invariably lead to a second delay. Now although that’s not out of the realm of possibility, REDs have been praising IT and logistics teams for their preparedness in getting everyone set up at home, and from what I’ve been seeing maybe a cozy home environment is a nice change of pace. I know for me personally, its incredibly hard to stay focused at home, but I have no doubt that these guys will be killing it wherever they are.
Moving on we have updates about the World of Cyberpunk 2077 lore book from Dark Horse. In previous videos we mentioned that the date of the release of this book would likely change to after the release date of Cyberpunk 2077. Dark horse however has swooped in to reinforce that the initial date of release of these is not going to be pushed back, assuming no supply chain interruption. This has me a little torn as I’m pretty sure a lengthy lore book is going to spoil at least some of the world before actually playing it, although knowing me I’ll probably exhibit 0 self-control and read the thing cover to cover as soon as I get it. If you have ordered this book, or are planning to get it, its something to think about.
We also have a 2077 Comic Book which was hinted at a while back, featuring the writing of some of the devs on the actual CDPR team. We get a brief glimpse at the pages, and maybe something story related but it’s really hard to tell what’s going on here. If you have any theories let me know.

We also have a keynote speech with the creator of Cyberpunk 2013, 2020 and Red where he breaks down IP’s and their fluidity in becoming any type of media. He dissects what kinds of traits an intellectual property needs and how these needs transform from books to movies to video games to tabletop rpgs and it’s an overall super interesting talk if you are into the design of media. He makes mention that Cyberpunk had been licensed before, but CDPR is doing what he deems as the most successful licensing attempt with an entry into video games and that Silverhand was designed to be a character who can be on the silver screen, in games or in books, an example of what makes the Cyberpunk IP more potent. He also talks about the Witcher games and their Netflix adaptations, and again it’s a talk worth watching so I’ll link that in the pinned comment and description for you guys.

Finally, we have a collaboration between Doughnut Backpacks and CDPR for this beast right here. Gotta say it’s a pretty snazzy looking backpack, but dear lord that price tag. Not going to lie, I’m a fan of most of the items Cyberpunk related so far that we’ve seen, and this is one of them, but I’ll take a hard pass based off that price, which if you think about it is more than the game itself.

Cyberpunk 2077 Lore – The Foods Of Cyberpunk!

The economy of the US in the 20th was largely driven by food and food related industries. Due to the Collapse however, Americans in 2020 have slowly but surely regained the power to quell the hunger and famines brought about by this disaster. In this Cyberpunk 2077 Lore video, we will be learning about the Foods of Cyberpunk from Kibble to SCOP to noodles to chickens and synthetic meat.

The farm economy has changed direction from food to fuel-centric, and thus most Americans in 2020 eat manufactured foods. These foods vary slightly in quality and quantity, but Kibble is the most prevalent and the basis for much other manufactured foods. The American diet is made up of almost 20 manufactured foods now, and Kibble is by far the simplest. Kibble was designed by Purina Foods for the South American relief effort due to the effect of the central American Wars.

The consistency is similar to animal foods, but also provides a full day’s supply of all major vitamin and mineral compounds, along with a small amount of complete proteins and amino acids.

SCOP is another integral part of the American Diet just because how diverse it can be. SCOP which stands for Single Cell Organic Proteins can be tailored to fit any taste or preference from chicken scop, to burger scop to cheese scop. Soya has also been engineered to fit into many of the vegetable protein foods currently available. As V wakes up in the 48-minute demo, we see Kibble and Scop on her shelf behind the bed.

When it comes to fresh foods, this is still available if you are the average millionaire. Statistically, as little as 3% of the total population eats fresh food more than once or twice per year. Massive burials and bio plagues have tainted the natural ground water in the States and thus fresh food has to be grown in indoor hydroponic gardens, which have skyrocketed its prices. The majority of fresh food consumes is imported from Europe and Canada, the new breadbaskets of the world.

In 2020 almost all the food consumed is eaten out. Vendors fill the streets not controlled by the corporations, and although most vendors sell hand foods and prepack, fresh soup and noodles are also available. Real fresh food is reserved for the highest end restaurants.

In the Cyberpunk 2077 deep dive demo, we know that the Voodoo boys and Placide keep chickens, which are illegal due to pandemics related to animals. Synthetic meat is also produced at the all foods plant, so it seems like things have changed slightly at least in outwards appearances as the timeline has moved on.
Kabayan foods and other seemingly larger grocery stores seem to pop up in the 2077 content we’ve seen thus far, and we do see Pad Thai and Noodles being offered in the street, meaning Kibble might be less necessary as Night City repairs and heals from the Age of The Red and the 50+ years since the Collapse.

Would A Cyberpunk 2077 Netflix Series Be A Hit?

Dissecting what a Cyberpunk 2077 Netflix series would mean for the franchise, How The Witcher Netflix became such a success and it’s ripple effect, Henry Cavill vs Keanu Reeves and celebrity presences, some existing Cyberpunk styled productions and shows and how this is a real possibility based off movements CDPR have already made with their Cyberpunk IP is the topic of todays Cyberpunk 2077 video!

The Witcher Netflix despite lukewarm critic scores, has been an overwhelming success in terms of audience and fan reception, straight up views and interest generated, as well as for the entities attached to the project. The Witcher Netflix crushed it in its United States Debut, and although Netflix tends to keep their numbers close to their chest, third party analytics have it pinned just behind Stranger Things and The Mandalorian in terms of recent Original Series and their impressive metrics.

Let’s be honest here, amongst the gaming population The Witcher has almost unanimously been praised especially the 3rd installment and has rocketed CD PROJEKT RED to the top of many open world RPG and gaming enthusiasts lists in terms of respect, notoriety and quality.
The Witcher Netflix single-handedly helped The Witcher 3 break its population numbers on Steam.

Henry Cavill and the Netflix name has furthermore pushed The Witcher to a much more mainstream audience, putting the series and the name in the living rooms of those who are detached from the video gaming world, but still consume modern entertainment as almost all of us who have a tv set or internet access do.

Now extrapolate this to the potential of a Cyberpunk Netflix, TV Series or movie, it has the ability to proliferate across the world and become a success. Cyberpunk 2077 is undoubtably more popular than The Witcher games, at least in terms of initial intrigue. YouTube is a decent barometer for gauging public interest, and here we can see the numbers behind the trailers of The Witcher vs Cyberpunk. There is quite the discrepancy.

This is partially due to the CD PROJEKT RED name being held in higher regard with the gaming population as time goes on, but I also think the Cyberpunk genre is something fresh and exciting for consumers, even if the actual genre dates back quite some time ago. This resurgence of the concept of high tech low life parallels nicely with our real world acceleration of technology, AI vs what it means to be human, the escapism of smartphones and being bombarded with the digitization of the world at every corner, as well as social media which is often times the source of politically and socially charged rumors, misinformation, opinions and statements.

Now assume a series or movie launch that is within the predictable realm of how successful Cyberpunk 2077 as a game will be. It already has the Celebrity endorsement to make the game itself more popular amongst the population who don’t play video games, which in itself is opening the video gaming space to more people without even the need for a Netflix or TV adaptation. Combine this with the pedigree for CDPR to craft expert stories and polarizing characters.

Altered Carbon was one of the first if not the first Cyberpunk themed project to be picked up by Netflix, and it has been a somewhat niche success. The genre is picking up steam again with more main-stream adaptations of a live action Akira, the Matrix 4 and more Ghost In The Shell SAC 2045 slated for the next couple of years.

Cyberpunk on the big screen can do something it’s genre-based predecessors behind it has for the most part not done, and that is having overwhelmingly positive ratings to a larger and non-niche audience.

The co-creator of 2077 and the main man behind its source material believes that a Cyberpunk 2077 movie would strike the balance between heady and thoughtful questions, action, emotion and impressive and vibrant locations and sequences.

Mike Pondsmith mentions in an interview that “At this point we are teaching people about this new kind of Cyberpunk. My favorite film is Blade Runner, but I recognize inherently that it’s a cerebral film and 2049 was even more cerebral.”

If you’ve had a chance to read any of the source books from the early 90s that Cyberpunk 2077 is based upon, it immediately becomes apparent in how many different directions one can take when developing a poignant, and provoking script. It’s incredibly fleshed out, researched and well written in an attempt to predict and tell compelling stories about the issues of the future.

The Witcher as an IP is great because it’s built on the foundation of having the strong works of Andrej Sapkowski, and Cyberpunk cranks that up 10-fold with over 4000 pages of history and lore. The best works of film many times come from already popular books, but there are also a ton of books and content equally as engaging that would be perfect for the big screen.
