Cyberpunk’s biggest next gen patch (1.5) is here and with it comes some major and minor leaps for 2077. New content, open world reactivity fixes, new weapons, improved performance, and many QoL changes means that Cyberpunk 2077 has never been better, especially if you are jumping into Night City for the first time to experiences its stories, characters, and RPG mechanics.
In today’s Cyberpunk 2077 news and new details we are talking about the launch of a New CD PROJEKT RED Store and Cyberpunk 2077 Merch, a Gamestar article about game over and fail states and how quests will unfold, some small details about V’s apartment customizability when it comes to music, and some countdown to the dark future details.
First up in this weeks Cyberpunk 2077 news is straight from the developer CD PROJEKT RED. It’s been known for a while now that they have been looking to release a merchandise store in 2019, and even had a brief session of polling the community to see what they would like to see. It seems like they’ve finally make some big moves here with the CD PROJEKT RED merchandise store being released in the coming weeks due to this tweet. In the tweet they state “we’ve been waiting for april fools to be over to share this good news – were opening a CD PROJEKT RED store in the following weeks, keep your eyes open”.
Now some people thought this was a potential launcher to compete with epic launcher and steam launcher, but CD PROEJKT already owns GOG.com and they clarified in a tweet right after that it is infact a merchandise store.
Next up we have some details about how quests will unfold and what the stupidest thing a player could do within a mission or quest. This comes via GameStar magazine. The translation is a little bit shaky here, but as I read it, means that a game over screen is only possible if your character dies. If over the course of a mission you make a rash or poor decision, there will not be a fail state for that particular mission and you will have to live with the decisions you make, however good or bad they may be.
Next we have some details about visting bars and entering shops and some customizability when it comes to V’s apartment. In a response to this tweet asking if we can get custom music insode v’s apartment or house the Cyberpunk twitter quickly shuts this down. In the gameplay demo we were treated to chippin in from Johnny Silverhand via Stanley Media radio, so maybe we can choose the radio station itself, but have no custom or imported music for our home bases. The next question asked is if we can do pointless but immersive actions like sitting in a bar and drinking, or entering various shops and entertainment places. Cyberpunk 2077 responds with that is a cool idea, youll have to wait and see.
Finally we have some countdown to the dark future details where we highlight things from RTalsorians cyberpunk lore series that may be featured in Cyberpunk 2077.
In episode 86 we hear about Susan Forrest a North Californian State Exuctioner. In the dark future criminals sented to death do not come to their demise peacefully and await execution. Most states have a combat ready executioner and in NorthCal, a former Max Tac officer names Susan Forrest is that executioner.
In episode 89 We learn about China Dahl a renegade Photojournalist. China grew up under the finger of the Corporates, and born into a wageslave family. China saw part the brainwashing and saw past the death grip of the corporations.
In Episode 90 we learn about Pixie a Daemon Programmer. A child prodigy in France with hopes of climbing the corporate ladder, she found herself attracted to the thrill of the net. She spent 2 years as a freelance netrunner until she created an assistance program to create Daemons, a low level AI and virus which is useful in infiltrating systems.
In today’s Cyberpunk 2077 news we’ll be talking about how CD Projekt Red are balancing Smart, Tech and Power weapons, how they are using pro gamers to refine their shooting mechanics, Some small details which could mean big things for an imminent Cyberpunk 2077 release date, What we can expect from apartments and customization, CD Projekt Red’s plan to optimize the game for lower end hardware and modern consoles, the amount of writers working on the project and how they collaborate in creating Cyberpunk’s quests, as well as a bionic man who is creating REAL cyberpunk 2077-esque augmentations.
So first up we have weapon balance and shooting mechanic details and news. According to information from a livestreamed interview with CD Projekt Red developers at Gamescom, they have brought on some significant help when trying to get the feel and smoothness of their shooting and weapons system down. Lukas LUQ Wnek, has joined the team to help CD Projekt Red in their first foray in to designing a First Person Perspective Shooting experience. Shooter games with Strong RPG elements, or how CD Projekt Red has called Cyberpunk 2077 an RPG with shooter elements, tend to suffer from underwhelming shooting mechanics and lack of weight to the weapons. Bethesda and Fallout 4 experienced this to a degree, and one of the main complaints from the Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay Demo was that the shooting didn’t have enough impact.
For those who aren’t great at shooter games, fret not as weapons will be able to become modified into smart weapons.
CD Projekt Red has also addressed damage numbers that pop up when shooting enemies, and are making sure there is an option to turn those off if you so choose. A lot of people seem to want to turn the damage indicators off, so this is great knews for players who are 100% invested in immersion. You can also turn other HUD indicators off.
Next up we have some details via Twitter that could tell us just how close to the end CD Projekt Red is on Cyberpunk 2077. First we have CDPR releasing a job listing looking for an automated test engineer. They’ve also been looking for a cinematic cutscene designer as well, which is again generally a final phase step for game development.
We also have Kyle Rowley leaving CD Projekt Red to join another game studio. Now he was a designer at CD Projekt Red, so this can mean that he’s no longer needed on the game, in terms of overseeing development or anything of that nature. He has presumably finished his role on Cyberpunk, which as a pivotal designer must be a huge part of it, leaving again only bug detection and playtesting to be one of the only things CDPR needs employees to do on Cyberpunk 2077. There also is a rumor that some Gwent devs are moving from Gwent into the 2077 team. This is substantial news for the Release date, knowing the game is already playable from start to finish.
Next up we have optimization details about how the game will take into account the aging technology of modern consoles like the Xbox 1 and the PS4. Many people are doubting the ability of Cyberpunk 2077 to run on current generations consoles, let alone PCs. With a beefy i7, 1080ti build running the Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay demo in 4K, locked at 30FPS, Cd Projekt red has also addressed their optimization process to those who are skeptical. Starting from the very beginning Maciej Pietras claims that they started the developmental process with optimization in mind, thinking from scratch on how to implement features like global illumination, without bottle necking or stressing the hardware too much.
Pietras also mentions every platform only has so much performance. He also mentions You can distribute where you want to root this performance, whethere that’s in larger city scapes, more destructibility, more NPCs, better lighting or more complex AI. This is a task CDPR feels like they are ready for, and by the way the gameplay demo looks, I’d say they’ve struck a meaningful and impressive balance.
Next up we have news on Apartments, megabuildings, and the upgradability and customization of our dwellings. We have confirmation that we will be able to have multiple apartments from CDPR, which will feature Radios, Computers to surf the net, scenic vistas, and weapons lockers and closets for all the gear you collect in your travels. There is also a Night City Vending Machine, where you can order drinks, braindance experiences and one night stands from JoyBoys and Joygirls.
Next up we have some details about the writing and writers working on the script for Cyberpunk 2077. Now there are other writers focused on the side quests, dialogue options and cinematic scripts amongst other things, but as for main writers, there is quite the contrast between the witchers last installment and Cyberpunk so far. The Witcher’s script had 450,000 words, which equals around 4 fully fledged novels.
Today we have some of the big cyberpunk 2077 questions that have been answered by CD PROJEKT RED themselves via their Cyberpunk 2077 Facebook Page. It seems this is the best place to ask questions as they are extremely active and tend to respond very quickly to their fans and their questions and concerns. If you guys have future questions for CDPR message them on Facebook, and you might get some answers.
We have 10 of the most interesting fan questions that have been asked that we finally have some answers to. Stick around for all 10 and learn some new details about CDPRs new game set in the dark future of Night City.
So the first question is what kind of music and music culture should we expect in Night City?
CDPR answers with “We’re marrying cyber and punk. Cyber refers to sonic texture and revolves around a sound palette that is raw, dirty, synthesized and even futuristic. Punk is about the attitude of the music. Rebellious, ballsy and impulsive, Night City’s music is just as vibrant as the city itself.” They also aren’t limiting themselves to a singular genre and want the music to reflect the narrative and story path.
I love their explanation here, and the soundtrack we’ve heard so far. the heavy synth of the music blaring in the Scav lair and Chippin In, the rock song heard in V’s apartment on the radio by Johnny Silverhand, both sound like they could be records that top our real world charts.
Next we have an interesting question about some of the mechanics in the game. A fan asks “Will the game have any stealth elements? Silenced pistol perhaps?”
CDP Projekt Red responds with Enemies won’t always be aware of the player, and you can use this to your advantage by sneaking up on enemies, laying traps and deploying viruses. The plan of attack is just as important as the execution. Players won’t be forced into a play style so they have the freedom to be creative in their combat approaches. Shooting through walls and bending bullters as well as stealth are part of your repertoire”
This is great news for fans of games that you can progress through without alerting enemies or even killing them to complete mission objectives. I’m interested to see just how much diversity there will be in combat and choosing our play style, and if it is significantly deeper than previous titles that share similar mechanics.
The next questions gets a very straight matter of fact answer. The question is in reference to V being able to unlock or buy additional apartments, to which CD Projekt Red responds that V will be able to as the story progresses. This means potentially owning multiple apartments, with nicer views and amenities. Maybe we’ll be able to buy a shitshack in the Combat Zone and really feel like we are in a decrepid and despicable place, or a penthouse suite similar to what a prolific corporate agent would choose.
Next we have a question about if we are able to join factions or corporations. CDPR responds that “Cyberpunks value freedom the most, and that you’ll be able to work for many factions, but you wouldn’t want or need to permanently join them in the context of the story”. It makes sense since V strikes me as more of a lone wolf, trust nobody type.
Our next question is regarding weapon skins and if mantis blades are our only option as far as melee combat goes. CDPR responds with they have no plans for skins, and that mantis blades will not be the only melee option. I don’t really think weapon skins fit the 2077 aesthetic, but we will be able to customize and mod our weapons to make them aesthetically unique.
The next question is “will the game feature lots of internal buildings and houses we can explore fully, or break into?” to which they answer “Night city has lots and I mean lots of buildings and all these buildings have multiple floors. In a tall building we will have many floors explorable, each housing many activities.”
We’ve gotten a taste of this in V’s megastructure, but im hoping we get to see some more crazy odd and violent things happening right at home in these megastructures
Next we have a question about photo mode, where CDPR has said that they are planning to have photo mode in the game. It’s unclear if it’s going to be at launch, but it should satisfy those who want to see their character in 3rd person more often.
Next CD Projekt Red states that PC and console launches will be at the same time, and that you will be able to see your feet and body looking down from First person perspective.
Finally the most important question that’s been asked thus far, will Night City have squirrels, to which CD Projekt Red responds with “their better be.” I think this confirms finding a cybersquirrels buried nut stash as a high level quest in the game.
Thanks for watching guys, and remember to subscribe for more Cyberpunk 2077 content.
