Cyberpunk 2077 – Was There A Graphical Downgrade? (Blurriness Explained?)

Now I know we are coming off the heels of the brand new Cyberpunk 2077 deep dive video, which was released a couple of days ago, but today I wanted to try to explain and breakdown something I noticed, and many others noticed during some parts of the trailer in the visual blurriness and maybe try to understand what was happening in those specific moments.

Now in doing some research about why the demo did not look as sharp as past Cyberpunk demos and trailers and even the showcases of the Witcher I stumbled upon this reddit thread thanks to user AlwaysNewbie featuring side by side comparisons from the Gameplay Sneak Peek trailer and the Deep Dive demo we recently got to compare and contrast the visuals.

Now I want to mention that no one who saw the Gamescom and E3 demos complained about a graphical downgrade or blurriness so this led me to believe that any blurriness we saw was not representative of the game, but instead because of certain settings being turned on, poor recording and compression techniques and the nature of how they have changed the environment at least in the outdoor sequences.

The 48 minute demo did not suffer from this blurriness in any environment, and that is an actual playable section of the game, and not a vertical slice.
I also want to add that in the deep dive in doors for the most part looks substantially better and many times doesn’t suffer this blurriness effect.

So let’s take a look at the side by sides from the trailer and the demo.

Why Is Cyberpunk 2077 & CD PROJEKT RED Getting Hate For Gender “Removal” & Customization Choices?

You can still play a 100% male or female in Cyberpunk 2077, and you will have the options to do so.

Now if you guys are unaware of what’s going on, lead concept artist of CDPR Marthe Jonkers mentioned to a UK publication known as Metro that quote. “You don’t choose “I want to be a female or male character” you now choose a body type. Because we want you to feel free to create any character you want. So you choose your body type and we have two voices, one that’s male and one that’s female. You can mix and match. You can just connect them any way you want. And then we have a lot of extra skin tones and tattoos and hairstyles. So we really want to give people the freedom to make their own character and play the way they want.”

Now according comments I’ve been seeing, apparently this inclusivity is pandering to the SJWs, the favorite word of outrage culturists, who oddly enough usually exhibit the traits of the very SJW description they are attacking, by being whiny babies.

Cyberpunk 2077 News – Gameplay Reveal Date, 15 Minute Public Showing & Developer Panel!

I’m sure at this point we are all itching to get to see the 2019 Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay demo as it’s been more than a year since the 48-minute walkthrough. Post E3 2019 CD PROJEKT RED confirmed that we would be getting a demo at PAX West, much like how they revealed last years demo post Gamescom.

This morning CD PROJEKT RED and Cyberpunk 2077 took to twitter to communicate their plans when it comes to the public demos release. They state in their post as follows.

Next week we’re going to host a stream. Expect a lot of insight into the thought process behind creative decisions, information about Pacifica—one of the districts of Night City—and TONS of stuff on playstyles you’ll be able to adopt when you launch Cyberpunk 2077 next year.

This stream will be available for everyone to watch, so all of you, wherever you are, have a chance to feel a bit of gamescom — or any other trade show — at home. Hosting the entire thing will be our very own Hollie Bennett, our UK head of comms, and the dev line up will include some familiar faces you know and like.

There’s one additional announcement we have for you: we initially planned to showcase gameplay at PAX West, but there’s been a change of plans, and we’ll be streaming from Warsaw. The PAX cosplay contest is still on; we just won’t have the dev panel on-site this time around.

Why is this important? Because 15 minutes relative to the 30 minute public and 50 minute private demo is not much footage when you compare it to what people who went to these events got to see.

Now personally I’m a little conflicted. We have confirmation of a date and a time which honestly really helps with planning where and how to view it instead of just having an arbitrary timeline, but 15 minutes is a lot shorter than anticipated. Even the public viewings at E3 and Gamescom were double this at roughly 30 minutes.

On the flipside, they have done enough world building with the previous demo, and the mechanics are the focus with this one, so a condensed version means that we can jump right into the skills, mechanics and playstyles.

CDPR’s reason for condensing the gameplay is that the private and public demo showed too many spoilers. Now obviously we have a ton of media and influencers reporting on these demos, so I think preventative measures for spoilers are a tad redundant at this point. We’ve probably read them already from the multitude of people reporting on the demo and their impressions from e3 and Gamescom 2019.

There is of course the possibility that we didn’t hear of the spoilers which are supposed to be big, and in that case, ill retract my previous statement. 99% of the fun of a single player narrative RPG is unraveling the story and exploration and another hour of content on top of last years demo is pretty unheard of, and I’m not sure what more they’d have to show us for the next 6ish months before release.
I do also have a sneaking suspicion that the reception for this demo didn’t have quite the impact of last years and that things like gunplay and stiff driving mechanics stood out more. I know CDPR were hesitant to show last years demo, and maybe this years feedback has caused them to reassess the slice they are showing and pinpoint some of the weaker elements.
I’m okay with 15 minutes if its detailed and addresses as much as possible that we won’t be able to see in the full 50 minutes. Additionally the panel after the demo is something I’ll be keeping my eye on, and I’m hoping its not repeat information from interviews.
As for my personal prediction, again it seems like they are emphasizing playstyles so gameplay chunks and how they unfold differently between stealth netrunner Male V and Brute strength solo female V will likely be the focal point as well as skills, attributes, trees and potentially inventories and sections.

Cyberpunk 2077 – The Age Of The Red Lore! (2020 – 2045!)

In today’s Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk Red Lore video we’ll be going over the state of Night City and the world after the events of the 4th Corporate war, and the culmination of Cyberpunk 2020 and what has happened pre Cyberpunk 2077 in the time period of 2020 – 2045. If you don’t have a good grasp on the events that have led up to Red, I suggest either reading Cyberpunk 2020, or watching some of the Night City history lore videos on the channel, or on The Madqueen’s channel to get caught up to speed.

Night City was inhabitable within 24 hours after the Nuke went off at around 1200 feet in the Arasaka towers. Many augmentations or filters installed in the bodies of the general populace meant that the people themselves had largely weathered the effects, but the city was a different story.

The period of rebuilding between 2040-2045 was largely on the shoulders of outsourced Edgerunners and Nomad packs such as the Aldecaldo clan.

Clearing the wreckage was a monumental task though, and tanks shoveled debris into the Bay.
The effects of this event affected specific districts and areas within Night City differently.

Suburbs are overpacked with tent cities and refugee camps filled with people hit hardest by the fallout. Megabuildings are under construction at this time to address the huge populations that are swallowed by crime and overcrowding.

Nomad families now have a bigger presence in the Cyberpunk landscape during the Time of the red. With the Night City and surrounding area largely being under construction and Nomadic packs being well versed in trade routes and commerce, they are integral to Night Cities’ reconstruction.

Gigantic megabuildings are the focus in the Time of the red, which not only house massive amounts of people, but will contain entertainment, food courts, shopping malls and central hubs
Politically Night City is all over the place.

In the time of the red, the Net as we know it today is essentially the digital wild wild west. Mastermind netrunner Rache Bartmoss had released the RABIDS a debilitating mass spread virus, leading to the DATAKRASH. Netwatch, the global police of the net have tried to ban netrunners from accessing the net and net traffic is now localized to individual buildings or campuses to keep everything running smoothly.
Law enforcement post 4th corporate war and the fall of the towers were pretty dodgy. Because of limited law enforcement units, bribery was common and corruption standard in who Law enforcement looks after.
From the old Night City police departments, only one has stood the test of time which is the MAX TAC or Psycho Squad.

Law and order in the time of red can also be classified into security services, corporate security, personal bodyguards, and more freelance police.

Cyberpunk 2077 News – Adult Themes, Cheating On Partners, Body Types & Developer Answers!

In Today’s Cyberpunk 2077 News we have a new interview featuring lead quest designer Pawel Sasko, Gamescom details, a Game that has been pulled from steam and it’s relation to Cyberpunk 2077, and some Facebook questions and answers from subscribers of the channel who have reached out to CD PROJEKT RED with some interesting details.

First up we have a 25 minute Polish radio interview with Pawel Sasko where he discusses Cyberpunk 2077. Big thanks to Matt for sending in the information.

When it comes to the 4 different styles presented in the world, Pawel mentions that these will influence how Night City looks not only in clothing but in the architecture.

Pawel also mentions that the goal of Cyberpunk 2077 is to tell a movie-like cinematic story for an adult audience that touches on the subjects and issues we face in our modern times.

He mentions that games are not toys for children, mainly in reference to more mature games, that 2077 will not shy away from harder issues and that the game will be loaded with them.

V’s main goal is to break free of Night City’s shackles and find him or herself a better life and accessing the immortality chip is the goal to that.

Changes over the years are normal and Pawel references the changes in their scene system from the Witcher to Cyberpunk 2077. They have completely scrapped anything from the Witcher in this sense to create a new system that is more mature and deep.

Next let’s jump into some developer questions and answers from subscribers who reached out to the Cyberpunk 2077 facebook page.

First we have a subscriber who asked If V can get muscle, and if he can change his body through working out and training leading to a potentially more chiseled or swole character.

Next we have a subscriber who asked if cheating on a romanceable partner was possible and if you could have multiple partners.

Next let’s jump to a game that used the hype surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 in a pretty shady and dodgy way to try to generate some sales on Steam.

Finally we have Gamescom in roughly 8 days, and PAX West in 18 days so get ready for some new Cyberpunk 2077 details, articles and hopefully something more in the form of screenshots and concept art. If you guys are going to Gamescom the CD PROJEKT RED forums are offering fast passes at a limited rate for those who have been active for a year and have over 50 posts. This will allow you to skip the que for the public presentation of Cyberpunk 2077 at Gamescom this year so something to keep in mind if you are going to Germany to check out the public demo. Sadly I won’t be able to make it to either the public or private demos to report on it for you guys, but the demo will be coming out at PAX West shortly after so keep an eye out for that.

Thanks for watching guys and for more Cyberpunk 2077 join Neon Nation by subscribing to the Neon Arcade.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Art Design, Direction & Philosophy!

Today we are diving into Cyberpunk 2077s stunning Art design and direction and how it brings the world of Night City alive.

In a single player RPG, the art direction is paramount in creating an authentic vision. Throw in the fact that this is a game based in a Cyberpunk universe with over 4700 pages of stylized source material and you have all the tools at your disposable to make the most believable sci fi world in any medium to date.

CDPR has approached it’s art direction cautiously and there are some very important reasons behind this. Art Director Kasia Redesiuk attributes some of this hesitance and time invested because of the visual challenge of developing technology and the world to reflect 50 years of progress from 2020.

Concept artists draft up a variety of different concept pieces and it allows the art department to meet with the other departments to determine which of these styles connect to the overarching themes and ideas of the game as a whole.

We know by know that there is 6 distinct districts in Cyberpunk 2077 with their own unique flare. We’ve seen the Corporate centre and Watson so far, with Pacifica being detailed by media and influencers, and both areas offer styles on opposite sides of Cyberpunk 2077’s spectrum. Whilst Pacifica is a gang ridden slum, riddled throughout the skeletons of a once promising coastal retreat, Watson and the city centre is a Marketers wet dream with buzzing neon billboards, the blur of public transport and on the move street dwellers.

Quest Designer Pawel Sasko has recently highlighted that the 4 distinct styles of the world referenced in their Cyberpunk conceptual art series is not only going to be tied to clothing and our own personal style, but the buildings and environments will also be tied to these specific niches.

Now whilst CDPR has a majority of the freedom in their adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, Mike Pondsmith is referenced as a walking encyclopedia and the go to man for clarification on some of the harder thematic and visual choices. He’s been very vocal about Weapons in the past.

The UI design is something CD PROJEKT has mentioned highly iterative. CDPR mentions that it needs to be readable, but at the same time it needs to be in universe and consistent. The goal when it comes to this design is that it should be apparent on your HUD if for instance you are getting hacked or fried.

Boisterous color is weaponized on your screen by the Megacorporations. The dichotomy between suffering, pain and struggle with the vivid and overtly “out-there” billboards and ads is a Cyberpunk trope that CD PROJEKT RED has gone full force with. Take one look on some of the more hectic streets of night city and it’s almost suffocating how much toxic brand allegiance seems to propagate throughout the world. If you don’t consume the latest drinks, have the latest car, or the second version of the Mr Studd sexual augment, you’re destined to be sucking cement as lowly street scum.

According to CD PROJEKT RED ads will also give a chance to show more of the universe and the background locales in some of these ads will show the state of the world outside of Night City. Good art allows you to extrapolate with some direction along the way.

Cyberspace was also a big challenge although CDPR have seemingly pinpointed their direction when it comes to this. From realistic to abstract, they’ve moved towards creating a digital playground that is surrounded in an air of mysticism.
Culturally, the genre has many times shown a melting pot future, which 2077 will align with. From the Voodooboys, Haitian immigrants who speak Creole, to the Maelstrom who speak Norweigan, to the fact that a language translator is an important piece of Cyberware for V, which without would make it harder to unwravel the citizens of Night Cities secrets.
